Warning: this is just a vent over something I find annoying that thankfully has an easy fix. Well, I like to become a fan or friend of most FTA channels on Facebook on principle, as a way to show support (unless the ideology is really way out there for me, obviously). Over the past several months, I have felt ambivalent over NTA's Facebook postings. Now, I know there are a couple of things to remind myself: #1, this is NTA, not NTA International, per se (but there is no other reasonable contact point for NTAi) and #2, even American media stations, local and national, are starting to post ridiculous things on their pages just to get traffic. But I ask myself, "really?" when I see NTA post things like this:

Police Commissioner Shoots Wife Dead Over Lesbianism [NOLLYWOOD MOVIE]

And no, it's not spam. These are official posts in the past two days alone on their Facebook page. I've "liked" the page for several months and have seen posts that are much more racy or disturbing (ironically, their links to real news don't seem to get plastered on my feed like these tabloid bits do). Furthermore, their FTA channel seems to be nothing like their page. So I wonder if I should keep ignoring the nonsense or just unlike the page. I'm inclined toward the latter as one can only take so much photoshopped nonsense or movie clips with the headline "scandal" posted above them. This isn't a true moral dilemma for me as I don't stay attached to Facebook all day long, but I do feel uncomfortable with the unprofessionalism by a supposedly national public television company. So, this will likely be my goodbye to NTA on Facebook :)

All the better reason to stay away from that crap. Until our dear leader mandates that we all have a facebook presence, I don't intend to have one. Probably not even then, either lol.

Facebook tells me there are nubile local girls interested in me! Bombards me with offers. Facebook is part toilet, part useful thing.

But northgeorgia is saying that it's not spam ads, its actual posts from the Nigerians...

That reminded me of something. A long time ago, when Usenet was the only social media around, I saw, I kid you not, someone posting Lion King porn stories. The signature on the posts indicated that the author was, I kid you not, a member of the Senate of some African country. I think it might've been Kenya, not Nigeria, but still, it was about the last thing I expected to see!
