Nimiq 4 strength

I have a 18'' dish. These were my reading on friday. I will try again tommorow and see what I get. I talked with an installer who put up a few bell express systems in this area and he says he has heard from no one about losing their signal. If i have the same reading i might try the 31" dish for the 82 satelite. Dennis

Nimiq 4 in Central Ak? Going to try.

OK, I have read through the thread and am curious if I can do it. I just got 91 running with the lowest signal on the 3100 installation meter at 83 and most at 100. This on an Andersen 6' antenna.

My look angle at 82 is only 1.3 degrees, but I have a clear shot at the horizon (on a hill). Have not been able to find anything on the footprint for Nimiq 4, but it is looking like perhaps the footprint has been shifted north from what I am reading. Maybe good news for Alaska? One thing is for sure, my results will probably be interesting news for you all.

I have talked to an installer in tok who mentioned that he often locked in 82 and 91 with a 24" dish. Fairbanks does get rather good reception of the eastern satellites because it is far enough north to not be imacted by the alasak range.

good luck

Central Alaska Nimiq 4 Results

Looks like the 6' Andersen dish is overkill, signal strength on all transponders is over 85%, most are 100%. Don't have HD capability but everything else is coming in. Will try again with a smaller antenna and see what I get.

I went ahead and cancelled Bell. I think I'm going to move on to new adventures and use my 30" dish for FTA...

BEV sucks how they charge you so strangely, when you cancel. 30 day requirements, and then they screwed up and still charged me wrong, and now i have to wait a few years for a refund.

That is a strange thing since I do not know of any other video provider that makes you pay for their service 30 days after you cancel. I suppose that can be a lot of extra revenue for them. They got 2 free months out of me since I had an account in Vancouver and also an account through a broker when I first got them in the states.

Why don't you just file a dispute with your credit card company?

They do that for all thier services. They require 30 days notice of cancelation.I did it with my internet and they still got it wrong for 2 months then had to wait another month before I even got my refund(s)(internet also charges 30 days in advance on signup).

Wobble has changed too

Have been watching the thread now too. Am North of Philadelphia and have been seeing the change.

TP 1 and 5 disappear during the day from the wobble while all but 2 and 3 have been floating in the low 50's.

I repointed, moving a few degress higher in elevation and at least get 1 and 5 at 51% for half the day's wobble.

After the past weekend, and another repoint for signal, 1 and 5 are now up 46 for less than half the day.

This is on a 24" dual dish. The sad fortune is that I wanted BEV for international programming on TP 5.

It does not seem it will get better. I'm holding out to the end of the month, but if trends continue, it's going to mean a larger dish for how much longer or an alternate provider.

Sadly Starchoice or DISH (which I also subscribe to) does not offer the same international channel choices of BEV on 82.

Curious if others in the Philadelphia area have tried the 30" dish on 82 and what they see.

I would think if you are getting 40s and 50s in Philly on a 24inch, a larger dish would probably get you out of the fringe and get the TPs you want. With that said, don't spend your money on a 30inch and get that improvement where you can get a 36 or 38 for probably slightly more and probably more reliable signal.

Update
Tonight no signal visible on any satellite 82 transponders in 36N 84W location.
Sat 91 comes in fine.
Looks like Starchoice is the only Canadian HD option here. Does anyone have experience with it in this area?

You shouldn't have any problem with Starchoice. I'm at 38N 95W (Kansas). My SC system arrives today and will be installed Friday. I'll be happy to let you know how it goes.

I would agree with you and thanks for the thought this. I was hoping not to go that high in size as it was a pain putting a superdish up. My roof is starting to look like an uplink center at this rate.

Better results as of a few days ago

I am in Colorado Springs, CO.

I'm about 130 miles north of you in Fort Collins. I had my signals tank
and stopped being able to get some channels altogether, but I started
seeing better results a few days ago - all HD channels lock, and the signal
seems reliable. They must have tweaked things. Right now, here's
what I see on 82:

TP 01-08 53 68 95 58 54 66 68 57
TP 09-16 59 66 74 55 57 65 71 55
TP 17-24 58 64 72 53 56 62 71 52
TP 25-32 53 61 67 50 51 61 65 53
