No guide info for OTA locals

I cancelled my dish locals. When I checked the guide I had no guide info for my OTA locals, yet I had info for some sub channels and my out of market locals. I’m in the Providence market. I called dish and talked to a second level tech support. She told me it was up to the local channels to provide the data to dish. I’m not buying this. Why would I get info for the sub channels and not the main channel? I don’t know if this is a problem for others. I would like to save the money but it makes it difficult for setting timers. I’m open to any suggestions.

Technically, you need the satellite locAls for guide data. Some have had success, but without a subscription, there is no guide data.

I guess I’m wondering why I get guide data for my out of market locals(Boston) which I don’t subscribe to even when I cancel my dish locals. But nothing from my locals except the sub channels.

When locals first became optional and I cancelled them, I noticed this bizarre result as well. My local PBS, WETA, lost guide data on 26-01, but guide data remained on 26-02, -03, and -04. I have been working with a Dish Technical Operations guy, but so far no dice. I'm going to email him again with your post and market. It's not just you and me, but I imagine a whole boatload of people who have this issue.

It may update the guide info with everything powered off including any joeys, it's worth a shot.

I’ve done all of that, including rescanning my OTA channels. Did a hard reboot but nothing seems to work. I appreciate all the help. Thanks to all.

Refresh my memory, you do get guide data for all of the other main channels, NBC, CBS, Fox? Just no data for WETA?

Correct. I have full guide data for the big 4, but an assortment of other channels now lack data on the main channel. I haven't bothered to look recently, because WETA is the main channel I record OTA. I had to resort to MPT channel 22 which is out of Baltimore. Reception is iffy on MPT, so I hope to go back to WETA ASAP.

I don’t have guide data on any of the networks. Just on sub channels for those networks.

Wow; that's nuts. Maybe my contact at Dish can use this fact to get to the bottom of the issue. I messaged him and gave him the link to this thread.

The locals do provide the guide data. But Dish has it in two ways. First, they get the download from whatever party they're buying from. That's how they send the information to folks subscribed to the locals. Then it's up to them to send it to the receivers. Second, the guide data is sent to your receiver via your OTA antenna. If you get the channel, you get guide data. No, probably not a weeks worth, but even a couple hours will let you use timers. Dish refuses to utilize this delivery method (that every TV manufacturer has used for years).

I don’t get any guide data from dish on my locals if I cancel them. Including OTA. None. Not 1 hours worth of guide data in the dish guide. When I restore the locals the guide data comes back. I don’t lose any guide data on any of my out of market locals. Just the ones in my market. I understand about getting data OTA. I have one tv not connected to Dish. Just the antenna. When I remove my locals the guide data goes with them. Including OTA.

Do you subscribe to locals thru Dish or get them just OTA only? Dish only furnishes guide data for locals, if you subscribe to the locals pack from Dish. That is why I got a TiVo Roamio OTA. I get guide data for all locals and sub channels with TiVo.

Yes I get locals thru dish And OTA. That’s how I get out of market locals and sub channels. When I delete the dish locals guide data goes away for the main channels including OTA.Data stays for in market sub channels and all of my out of market channels. If I lost data for all channels I would understand that, but that’s not what happens.

My most excellent Dish Tech Operations guy replied this morning and he's back on our case. :D

See if he can find out why the OTA guide data for WMFD does not map to 068-01, even though Dish carries WMFD on 012-00. This is in the Cleveland, Ohio locals package, and it is the same way whether or not I subscribe to the satellite-delivered locals.
