non dish lnb

will a non dishnetwork lnb pick up signal from dish network

I have a Fortec 80cm dish that I want to use to pick up 61.5 and hopefully get very little rain fade. I would rather not have to cut open a dish twin lnb in order to get it to fit the lnb holder that comes with the Fortec dish.
One supplier says that ONLY a Dish lnb will work.
Another said that a DDS circular dual will work.
Either way it will feed into a Dish Pro Plus into my 622

My next question is there a bigger dish that I can use to replace my 500 for
110 and 119 and can I still use my PRO PLUS lnb on it.

It really rains in south florida and my wife hates it when we lose signal

if you're connecting to DishPro equipment you need a DishPro LNBF, preferably a DP Dual or DP Single (not twin).

This is the answer I had gotten from a suppler.
I’m not sure what you mean by feeding into a pro plus LNB unless you’re talking about it feeding into a Dish Pro switch. The LNB will work with any of the dishnetwork switches or receivers. I use one myself with my Dish500 system for 61.5 so I can receive my HD programming on my ViP622 receiver.

Are they just trying to sell me their product?

I had heard the older Direct and Dish lnb were interchangeable.

Has anyone tried a non dish lnb?

Assuming "pro plus LNB" means "DishPro Plus Twin," then yes it has an input to accept a 3rd LNB which must be DishPro. The DPP Twin has 2 LNBs (110/119) and an internal switch. All DP receivers can use it, legacy receivers must have another receiver connected.

DirecTV LNBs are equivalent to Dish legacy and can only be used with legacy (non-DishPro) switches.
