Hi all,
Really dumb question here, but here is my set up...
I live in an apartment complex that has communal DirecTV. I live in a one bedroom with one output in the living room and nothing in my bedroom. I have 2 HDTVs and want one in the living room and one in my bedroom. Is there any possible way to get these both working with DirecTV even with the one output? Would they both have to watch the same thing? What type of spliiter would I need? If i split the signal, should I buy two HD receivers (one for each room)? Help a brotha out. thanks!

you would need a swm8. look on ebay for a good price or look up on your screen and click on the weakness ad. you might find a swm5 on ebay which is cheaper

Check with the complexs management depending on the type of distribution system they have you maybe able to do it.

I second the SWM8 because I just installed it and its great. Problem is, how would the SWM8 be used in an app like yours??

Id say, the easy way, would be to get a hddvr for one room and just a plain hd box for the other.

I was planning on getting a DVR for one room and an HD DVR for the other. I think my complex may have the older DirecTV dishes (what type, I do not know). Will this impact this setup? How do I go about setting this all up?

I think the guys here will be able to help you best if you can find out more about the apartment hardware and how its installed. Then you can go from there.

This is the email the tech guy sent me...

"You can lease the HD receiver, however, you can only have one satellite receiver in a one bedroom. This is due to building wiring limitations. You can split this signal to watch the same Channel in two rooms. This requires an A/V Amp splitter ($129.00), an HDMI A/V Amp splitter ($239.00), or simply use the Composite & line level Audio (Yellow,Red, White) outputs for no additional charge. We currently have Tripple (3LNB) dishes on the roof with no immediate plans for upgrade."
