Had some "me time". A few months ago after a thunderstorm I lost horizontal polarity. Bottom line, an old Drake c band lnb took the place of a Norsat DRO. Slightly less signal than the one that borked.
Took a look at it and the SMD electrolytic cap negative lead and trace was blown right off the pc board. That's in red in the middle. Same as the other one circle in red. 10 uF 35 V.
The 7806 regulator in black was toast also. Nothing coming out. Lifted the output leg....still dead.
But I missed something. Did a run through and no shorted caps, open resistors.
A donor board gave me a regulator and I let my supply of 10 uF smd caps run out. So the same board gave me a thru- hole replacement rated at 50 V.
Got power back after some cleanup. Nothing got hot. Transistors weren't shorted. But the 6V rail above the blown cap pad was dead.
There was an almost invisible break in the trace circled in blue. And this was all under a microscope with a camera and 24" monitor. Scalpel scratch. Jumper wire. Current draw went to around 300mA. And put it all back together. Swapped it out (fingers crossed). What can I say? Me and Tony and Silvio down at da' Bing! Yo!
Aww come on. I did good, huh?
