Odd new symbols in guide...

After being a longtime lurker I finally decided to "come out" and join the forum. I've found it a wealth of information for a long time and appreciate the input very much.

Lately (maybe before but certainly since the S234 update) a bit of an oddity in the guide on some channels. The attached image with the arrow pointing to what appears to be 3-colored circles (or balls) immediately before and after PTAT scheduled recording on 1 of the 4 local PTAT stations shows what I'm describing. If you select one of these programs the normal options to "Record This | Record Series | More Info" are replaced with "Daily Schedule | More Info". If "Daily Schedule" is selected it merely takes you to the PTAT schedule which, is the ONLY timer existing on my setup. FWIW, these programs do NOT record and cannot be selected to record in advance. Additionally, once the programs actually reach their starting times the blue circles (or balls?) change color to become red and may be recorded manually if you simply hit the record button.

I've spoken to 2 different Dish Support persons and frankly, don't know any more than before. The first person said it was a recording conflict but since there are absolutely no timers set save for PTAT so I don't see it as feasible. Also, the other PTAT networks have programming starting in the identical time frames before and after PTAT scheduled programming yet, it is only occuring on the single network. FWIW, the latter DISH tech said there are actually 3 colors of the symbols...red, blue and purple and reflected whether the Hopper or one of the 2 Joeys were involved.

Bottom line, I have no clue what the symbols mean or what is prompting them. It's not presenting any particular problem (yet) but if I did want to schedule one of the affected programs for recording in advance the inability to do so would be troublesome. Any information is appreciated.

Scott, can you explain this? I have no timer set for it, it does NOT record & I saw the same behavior once on some infomercial. I'd love to clear it if possible.

I am thinking it is because PTAT is set to record early, 3 mins on my system (don't know how to change). May be that means part of this show will be recorded? I noticed on my yesterday and said WTH, I don't have that recording.....only thing I could think of...and if that is on that time every night, that then would be a recurring timer as Scott has said..... I could also be wrong

I encountered this last night now that you said you did NOT set a timer. Let me look at the guide online to try and refresh my memory....

Hmmm, can't go back in time but I see a timer for "Fringe" that I didn't set (and noticed it last night in the guide). What I did do was set a timer for a show immediately before or after it and it selected that instead. I ignored it, figured it would fix itself later...

Nope, don't think that's the case. If it were, it would do it to Wheel of Fortune, Entertainment Tonight, and Big Bang Theory too.

I tend to think it's an aberration of sorts. It's definitely related to PTAT, if it's turned off, the symbol disappears & returns when PTAT is re-engaged. The show does not record and it's time-slot prior to PTAT recording is no different than the other networks where all is normal. The same show actually airs again immediately after PTAT recording and oddly enough, the same symbol appeared there yesterday as well but is no longer present on the late airing today or any of the next few days either.

I have the same symbol on my guide. What I notice on the screen snap is that your is on the ABC local network channel. My symbol is also on my ABC local network.
Could this be an ABC thing?

I noticed the same thing the other night in my guide. It also was for an ABC show at 7:30pm eastern time. I checked my daily schedule and it didn't show the recording. And nothing actually recorded either.

Could be although as I said above, it popped up once on some infomercial but I have no idea of the time of day or the network. That one was red (show had started) and I wrongly blew it off as related to the "special" content...could have been ABC.

The thing that bugs me is the inability to schedule a timer for that slot should I want to. I do know it's an everyday thing there but inexplicably, the 10 PM slot following PTAT is now back to normal where it was previously doing the same thing.

Mine is daily in the ABC 30 minute block immediately preceding the ptat start continues for all the future guide days that are downloaded. Those that were initially present at the 10 PM time slot at the end of ptat recording are now gone & all appears normal except for the 6:30 one every day. Somebody smarter than me will have figure this out.

It definitely has to do with PTAT and it looks like it's on the ABC channel due to the alphabetic order of the networks. As a test, I deselected ABC as a PTAT network and when I went back into my guide, the symbol appeared in the same timeslot, but this time for my CBS channel instead.

I noticed the same thing yesterday around 6:30pm on Wheel of Fortune, I was glancing through the guide and saw 3 red circles. I even chewed my kids out as i thought they may have set Wheel of Fortune to record. I searched through all timers and couldn't find it.
Glad my insanity is also in check lol

I would expect it to get the proper attention if a DIRT member reported it even if he couldn't duplicate it.
