OFFICIAL DISH / FOX ORDEAL DISCUSSION THREAD

Yes, Yes, you're right. I think Dish is trying to drop channels on purpose to help Directv level the playing field for HD. By this rate, in six months or a year, Directv might actually be competitive w/Dish. Dish is being benovolent.
You realize that Direct makes much more money, has more to offer in packages, dominates bars and restaurants, is the number #1 satellite provider, and has a few million more customers?

Spoke to my friend who just switched to AT&T Uverse.

He said I could come over every Thursday to watch It's Always Sunny :D
Problem is, he only has SD programming. I want to watch Sunny in HD :(
I guess SD is better than nothing.

Or.. I could switch to HD AT&T Uverse and watch it in HD for myself. (See above. Having a hard time dropping E*)

That comes with your base pack,, OH wait not if your a Dish customer.:p:p:p

Atleast you have Epix and Sony movie channels.

Wouldn't know I don't do spurts. Much rather have 2 movie channels than set on my A and get fat watching spurts on TV. Always felt it should be something to do not sit around and watch.

HD ULTRA LITE. Read over & over that it is the worse HD that anyone has.

Which is exactly why Dish is probably the best choice for you. More choices are always better for the customer. And this is exactly why I want both Dish and Direct to be successful, and why I want Dish to come out of this little battle with Fox with an agreement that was closer to Dish's original terms (IOW, I am rooting for Dish).

Yup. From this thread I gathered that information.
People also say there is an issue with the HDMI port or something, and the audio is 'bad'

Sigh. I love my Dishnetwork...
This seems like a divorce. I love Dishnetwork so much, but I want to switch providers because I'm tired of their sh*t.

ha.

I dont know if this has already been posted, I looked for a few pages and didnt find it so here goes, I cant believe that E is complaining about Fox raising their prices right after E has done it twice and does not think anything about it, I guess as long as E is raising their prices to their customer it is ok but when some provider wants to raise their prices E screams they are trying to rip us off, like E is doing to us. E just shuts us off from these providers even though E is making more money from all of us and we have no recourse except to accept it or change providers. I have been with E for at least 10 years and now I am thinking about going to AT&T because Im tired of E ripping me off.

Really? Can you show me where Charlie Ergen and Dish Network won these disputes? Otherwise, this is simply bravado and opinion.

IIRC, the last one that E* won was with The Weather Channel, not many moons ago.
Really? Dish Network wanted to drop TWC because it was asking for a rate hike and wasn't providing localized weather.

We don't know how much the rate was hiked, but we do know that the interactive channel still hasn't launched. And that is defined as a "win"?

I used to work for Superstar, Netlink & NPS. I can't give you documentation as that was years ago. But was told in advance that they would be closing down and were looking for a buyer. Charlie happened to be the one w/ the $$. I ran a C/Ku commercial and some home installation for close to a decade. I installed numerous C-band systems into several hotels & motels and the programming was thru the commercial divisions of those providers. I can not give you any documentation as it was years ago that I closed the biz and no longer needed to keep all that paperwork. So it was all tossed around 8 yrs ago when I moved.

Ok so Charlie bought out SSN/NL/TV. After that he used high pressure tactics to convert C banders to DN with YSP. At that time NPS was against all this and got a good percentage of the c band subs. NPS was a great company years back I had them from 1991 till just a a week ago when my last sub ran out. In the last few years, since Charlie got involved I saw NPS changing rapidly from what they stood for for all these years. This year they have pulled ever dirty deceitful underhanded trick to kill off the lat big chunk of c band. I'm sure Charlie had an influence on these decisions. His plan was to kill the 4DTV completely and destroy Skyvison and SRL chances to go on. Well that part backfired and thanks to Comcast HITS and SRL coming up with some green the 4DTV will live next year and beyond running on Comcast HITS SAC. NPS will be closing their doors on c band finally and the bad press should stop. Dish Network on the other hand is digging it''s own grave right now which makes me happy since Charlie deserves all the wrath he can get IMO.

All I know is that TWC caved, and to me that sounds like E* won.

p.s. Definitely not a win for subs. Subs never win in these disputes.

I contacted them because they were "giving" HDNet Movies and HD Theatre for free in place of FX and Nat Geo, but I am a platinum HD sub and was thus still paying for them. They gave me Platinum HD and Starz free for three months plus three PPV coupons. It would be worth it to see what they will give you.

Aww that's horse crap!! I had to really raise hell just to get Platinum HD for free for 3 months since I already pay for it..at first they only wanted to give me 1 month free... maybe its time to get back on chat and demand more!?!?:rant:

I still also DO NOT have any of that sports package they were offering for people during this blackout... the CSR told me its not available!?!

Still no understanding GI/Motorola was the one that has been trying to drop 4DTV as the commercial companies like HBO, SHO, STARZ were stopping using the 4DTV to go to better compression formats. All the movie co's and big program providers want to go to MPEG 4 so they can cut their cost by using less tps in the sky. Comcast, HITS,& SAC don't want to replace all of the equipment in their head ends so that's why a deal was being struck w/ them to continue to use 4DTV digital. Those will at some point probably be discontinued as well, just not right now.

Wasn't that hard to get

It wasn't too hard for me to get 5 off for 12 months. Here's the chat.
(03) HY Chris K.6M6: Hello Edgar.

Edgar Hatchel: Yes wanted to find out about some things

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: How may I help you?

Edgar Hatchel: Since I lost Nat Geo on the 1st wanted know what I can get to replace it.

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: I will be glad to assist you with that.

Edgar Hatchel: Any answer?

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: DISH Network and FOX Networks are in contract negotiations related to the price we pay for some of their channels. FOX Networks has demanded a rate increase of more than 50%. While we are doing our best to limit any interruptions in programming, DISH Network cannot agree to these terms and we will fight for a fair and equitable agreement. Unfortunately, FOX Networks has made the decision to remove some of their programming from our customers. We are working hard to return your programming as quickly as possible. In the meantime, let me review what programming is not affected and discuss some alternatives we are giving you during these negotiations.

Edgar Hatchel: I know all that.

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: National Geographic channel 186 will be showing HD Theater until we reach an agreement

Edgar Hatchel: I want to know what I can get to replace Nat Geo?

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: I assure you we are doing everything possible to return your programming and reach an agreement that is fair and equitable. Please feel free to visit our website at DISH VS Fox to get the latest updates on our negotiations. You can also voice your opinion by emailing us at president@dishnetwork.com.

Edgar Hatchel: I already get HD theater in my package

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: Okay.

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: Let me first access your account to help you further.

Edgar Hatchel: While you are doing that is it true that Playboy Latino is free? I was looking under A-La CArte & $0.00 was showing for the charge.

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: Yes, to receive that for free you will need to subscribe to Latino packages.

Edgar Hatchel: OK just wanted to know was stragne to see that and now I see why. I don't have the lation pack.

Edgar Hatchel: Sorry meant latino not the other way around

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: Okay.

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: Thank you for your patience.

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: Could you please verify the last four digits of your SSN?

Edgar Hatchel: XXXX

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: Thank you.

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: I can offer you 2 free PPV coupons if you can confirm your e-mail address.

Edgar Hatchel: Those are SD I don't watch SD

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: Okay.

Edgar Hatchel: Something else like maybe BBC America

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: Let me check what else I can offer you.

Edgar Hatchel: La D da La D da. Just humming to bad you can't hear it my lighten up your day. Bet you guys are getting it hard & heavy w/ the crap that has been going on.

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: I understand that and I know how frustrating it must me for you.

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: I would have felt the same way if I were you.

Edgar Hatchel: My package didn't have sports so didn't care about that but I used to watch Nat Geo and record The Wormhole & the Universe on it.

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: Okay.

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: The you for your patience.

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: I see there are no other offers available on your account.

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: However, I will connect you to our loyalty department to help you further.

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: May I go ahead and connect you to your loyalty department?

Edgar Hatchel: So am I going to not get any type of credit for loosing the channel? Not too cool there. Least you could do is offer the equivalent off my bill of the PPV's.

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: Each PPV is worth $4.99

Edgar Hatchel: Sure connect me to that dept. How long wil it take?

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: Thank you.

(03) HY Chris K.6M6: I will connect you now.

(03) HY Chris K.6M6 has left the session. Please wait while we find an agent from the (20) Loyalty department to assist you.Thank you for contacting the Customer Loyalty Helpdesk, I will be handling your request today. Edgar Hatchel: I'm back when you need me It'll be 3 mins before time to cut it

(18) Sarah K.1FB: Thank you Edgar. I see you are concerned with the loss of some of your channels is that right?

Edgar Hatchel: Yes

(18) Sarah K.1FB: I know it's frustrating and I do apologize. We are working hard to reach a fair and equitable agreement. Negotiations usually proceed quickly, and we hope to reach an agreement soon.

(18) Sarah K.1FB: Due to the inconvenience, I'd be happy to credit you $5 off per month for the next 12 months

Edgar Hatchel: That would be great, too bad I can't get BBC A w/ my absolute package though

(18) Sarah K.1FB: I can have those credits start on your next months bill for you Edgar! Unfortunately I'm not able to get that channel on your absolute package, however I would be happy to look at the higher packages it is available in if you were interested?

Edgar Hatchel: No not leaving absolute w/ the 3 premiums that I have.

(18) Sarah K.1FB: Okay no problem Edgar.

Edgar Hatchel: Not any package that gives me as many HD channels for the kind of pricing I have.

Edgar Hatchel: So since I just paid for next months bill it will start on the following?

(18) Sarah K.1FB: Yes that is correct.

Edgar Hatchel: OK I'll let you go then.

Your session has ended. You may now close this window.

Got plat hd free for 3 months and 3 free ppvs, had to be very persistent, and quoted your post as well. And they kept giving me the boiler plate response and i reprimanded them for it and they stopped, lol. Just have to keep autopay which i already have for the 3 months. I do watch one show on FX, but will just watch its always sunny online from now on.

I've had some luck getting those 3 months plat for free, but has anyone gotten those sports channels yet?!?!? They told me not available and they still don't show up where i can get them on my guide yet they said they would give it to us?!?!??

When Motorola bought the set top box division from GI thats when things got hairy as far as a new receiver goes. GI was going to come out with a 924 which did combo (megapipe) mode. If that would have happened allot more feeds would have been open to us. When GI launched the 922 combo was talked about in it's design but never included. With Charlie putting an axe in subscribers starting with the buyout of SSC/NL/TV that took away the numbers needed to really commit to getting the 924 built. The sad part is that Nothing can compare to the Master feeds for picture quality. No second gen feed will ever give that quality. Dish, Direct, Cable etc compress like crazy and destroy the quality. So everything he does these days don't surprise me. Charlie is about two things $$$ and power, he acts like he is untouchable and can do what he wants. He's getting a bit of education now from the programmers, that won't be pushed around by him.

If Dish, Direct etc passed along the virgin signal picture quality it would be very nice, but never will since they don't have the bandwidth no matter what codec they use. C band IMO is and was always the best, nothing can compare. Cable never liked us though since we had access to the broadcast standards feeds. After watching them for 23 years already I will remain a die hard for c band even if its for the occasional peak at the broadcast master. :) It could have lasted allot longer if the pizza guys would have stuck to their subscriber base and kept their nose out of our camp. Direct did but Charlie didn't, funny that Charlie's roots came from c band where he was involved with VC2 piracy. Thats a red flag right there not to trust the guy. Now Charlie is being educated to the way the system works by the programmers. He thinks he can always get his way, but not happening now. The subscribers though are the ones getting screwed.

Well of the "Solutions" posted by Dish to compensate for the dispute with Fox, only HDNet Movies has become available to me at my location. Discovery HD Theater remains blocked and the 9 alternative sports channels aren't even listed on my all channels list. Not much of a Solution. I emailed Dish about this and await their reply.

BTW, I still had FX at 10PM MDT today, but it was gone and replaced by HDNet Movies around noon today. So the reports of a 3 AM cutoff were apparently inaccurate.
