Well on the heals of the horrible and deceptive practice of Halo 3 not really being in 720p.

There is this revelation about PS3 and 360 games. What will all the Fanboys say now?

Most HD Game Resolutions Not Even 720p Let Alone 1080p | GameBrink.Com

"Check out two of the biggest releases of the season for example:

COD4 (360) 1024×600p 2xAA
COD4 (PS3) 1024×600p 2xAA
Uncharted (PS3) 960×1080 in 1080p

Neither Call of Duty 4 or Uncharted run in the actual resolutions.

The reason most games do this is to allow for more visual effects to be rendered to the screen without slowing the game down. Most won’t ever notice or care but it’s kind of interesting to find out the actual resolutions that games render in. Here are some more recent ones along with a huge list of older releases from the pixel counter at Beyond3D.

Def Jam: Icon (PS3) 1152×648
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (PS3) 1920×1080 FullHD
Transformers (PS3) 960×1080
Pirates of the Caribbean (PS3 720p): 960×720
Pirates of the Caribbean (PS3 1080p): 780×1080
Oblivion (360): 1024×600 (PS3 version is full 720p)
ICO (PS2): 512×224p (less than Tekken on PS1 at 512×240)
VF5 (PS3 720p): 1024×1024 (same as 360)
VF5 (PS3 1080p): 1024×768

Yet another bit of proof that numbers don't matter nearly as much as what I see with my eyes....

Maybe it will take some time for the programmers to get up to speed to fully utilize the full graphics potential of this next gen.

Look at early PS2 or Xbox games compared to later ones, they get better over time.

Considering how well some of these games look (Uncharted especially), I cant wait to see what games will look like in another couple years on these systems.

If these games like Halo 3 and Uncharted Waters are looking this nice on the 360 and PS3 -- who should care what the resolution is. The games look great and are obviously fun to play so who cares if they are truly a HD resolution. Of course there are games that are truly in HD (like Heavenly Sword and Rachect and Clank) on the PS3 and they look gorgeous and are fun too.

Maybe the bottom line is that the game should just be fun and look good for us to be happy. I know that I really like good game play over graphics anytime. Last Xmas I gave my daughter Legos Star Wars for the PS2 and while the graphics were blocky we really loved playing the game. So much so that I bought the Legos Star Wars - The Complete Series for the PS3. I just really like playing the game -- and to me that is what really counts!

I agree with you. The only reason I posted this is because there was such a big deal about Halo not being in true 720p. I could really care less what the resolution is as long as it looks good.

BluRay PS3 fanboys brought this on themselves when they raised such a stink about Halo3. Pretty funny if you ask me. Now they look stupid.

Vurbano, you are such a PS3 BluRay troll. If you want to revisit that list you will see several titles that are using a true HD resolution for the PS3. Nobody brought anything on themselves, if game is fun then people will enjoy. The merits of the gameplay is what is really important. Do you even play games?

Actually I am the guy that keeps asking who can tell the differance between 1080i and 1080p while watching and not on a static screen. If your resolution is full 1920x1080i/p then there should be no differance at all unless you are taking a progressive product and reducing it to an interlaced one and even then I am not sure most could tell the differance.

I couldn't care less about specifics of resolution. All I know is that Gears of War looks gorgeous, Guitar Hero 3 is tons of fun to play, and Halo 3 has great multiplayer.

I still wonder how the hell they can even get the actual resolutions from these games.
