Whaddya do when something like this happens? Dish came out today (retailer picked up the work order) The guy show's up. I have all the internal wiring all hooked up to a dpp 44 switch, ready to go. All the guy has to do is bring in wiring from the outside dish to the switch inside the garage. I show him the job. He's pretty happy that its going to be an easy day at my house and Im helping him out.

Guy goes and gets his little giant, (its snowing outside) Puts it up on gutter fully extended. (im inside the house hooking up receivers while he's doing this) Where he put the feet of the LG, he put it on my deck full of snow! He climbs up, the LG feet slip out, He grabs the gutter bends that and takes out my grill breaking it. Inside the house I hear a big Cabooom. Went and checked him out to see if he was ok. The tech said he thinks he cracked a rib but he would be alright. I ask him if he needs an ambulance or if I need to go hit the medical button on the adt system so he can go to the hospital. He said he would be alright. He continues to march on, and hook up the dish. After a few min, he comes down saying he cant get the dish on the pole and he's going to the hospital. He's on the line with his supervisor im assuming and they said that they were sending someone else out. I was cool with it as well Stuff happens. He left the receivers here and the dish on the roof.

So he leaves, I dust of off the 7/16ths wrench and bust out my ladder Little giant in A frame mode and spectrum analyzer. Like a true satellite guy! I finish out the install myself. Replaced the pole on the foot, put the dish on the foot and got the dish on Eastern Arch and ran the lines in, hooked up to the switch and grounded the ground block. All of this was my own equipment and lines as the tech only left enough wire to get the job done. So after I got done hooking everything up, crimping all the lines with snap n seals, I was in the middle of doing receiver downloads when there was a nock at my door. (this was about 2 hours later after the tech left) It was two more techs from the retailer. I told them what happened and That I was about to call the retailer as the install was completed (thanks to me getting off my own arsce) They took a look at the install and blessed it as the guy said holy sh*t you even grounded. He continued to give me complements as he said the work that I had done, was better than some of his best techs and asked If I needed a job. By this time, I was like dude all I need is this hole I drilled into my garage sealed with some silicone.

So we check signal levels, (upper 50's on all sats) and he calls in the work order and activates receivers. Sign the paperwork and they leave forgetting to seal the hole and forgetting to bring me my OTA module for my 722k. So that's that!

Programming is activated, HD quality isnt bad. Better and just more crisper than uverse! Dish's HD lineup isnt bad aside from the lack of HD RSNS issue. In fact its quite nice watching ESPNHD and seeing a dude run down the foot ball field with out micro blocking boxes around the guy! Looks like im getting all of my channels minus redzone wich im going to call about. Other than that im all set for this month :D

Ahh the life of a SatelliteGuy. :)

To get NFL RedZone you need the RSN Sports pack at $5 a month. :)

Not snowing here yet but supposed to start soon.

Yea it was allready suppost to be added to my programming package at activation. I had to call dish anyhow to get the 30 dollar Dvr charge on my 211's added on for external hard drive support so it was no biggie. Coutomer service was amazing and the lady that took care of me did a great job. +1 FOR DISH! What is amazing is how well I allready know dish and how everything just falls into place! That is nice! Especally with all the dish online and sling stuff!

No, im going to see if I can bend in the gutter, If not Ill be calling dish back on Monday. The grill I haven't made up my mind yet. I was looking at getting another one anyways as it was kind of old. The guy did a number on the grill though! Completely shattered the handle and put a dent in the grill. The grill had a light in the handle with C batteries and they flew a good 10 feet from the grill. The guy was a big guy too, like me so he had to have a hard fall!

I did end up finding some silicone in one of my tool boxes and sealed it up myself a few hours ago. I just find it amazing that the tech would have a lack of judgement and put up a little giant like that on a snow covered deck. I know when I was a tech, I would have never done that! I hope the guy is ok.

As far as the guy coming after me because it happened at my house, I dont see that happening. If he does, I'll shoot it over to my homeowners insurance and let them send the FOAD letters.

Just make sure that it's only the ins co's lawyer that is telling him to FOAD. :D

E installers are supposed to be fully insured, they owe you a grill, its a cost of doing business, stuff happens.........

I too hope the guy is ok

Yea No kidding.

I feel kind of bad for him. I know how its like being out there as an installer trying to earn a buck, especially in this economy. When I did it, the economy was much better! Although nothing beats safety, its only tv! :up

Sounds like a scene from Christmas Vacation with Clark Griswold putting up Christmas lights!! I have had such a moment at my house as I am often up on the roof in winter to break up the sometimes foot thick ice dams. I only did the Clark Griswold once before I learned to put the ladder where it couldn't do that. Hope the guy is allright, but one way or another, you're getting a new grill. Any excuse to get a new grill is good, right?

We need to see pictures of the carnage!
