Opinions on the Best Satellite Internet Provider

2 watt ODU won't change your speeds (unless you have a bad one). Currently HN is commissioning to 117W tx 1K 970 freq. I do not know how that particular sat & tx are doing, because I am using Hor 1 (127W) due to my local. It would be nice if someone here who is on the same freq as you could post there speeds. I have seen a bad ODU cause slow speeds(as well as other things). I'm also wondering if they changed you to 1050 when you commissioned the HN7000 modem? That may be the real problem??? I would request they change frequencies(transponder). I know its NO FUN dealing with pakistan but worth a try.

I went back and looked at my DW6000 info, and was on 1050 at that time. I do not know if I started there with the DW4000.

I'll give them another call (it's been 2 already), and see if maybe changing the transponder will help (if they'll do it.)

Thanks for allyour help!

Don't know if the OP ever found service, but I hope Hughes doesn't end up being his only choice. We have been customers for over 5 1/2 years because we have no other choice but dialup. Their customer service is lousy, and the internet service sucks for the most part.

Some history: when we first signed up in 2002, with a DW4000 modem, there were times we got 3MB download speeds! Then we got a DW6000 because we wanted to set up a home network. Still sometimes got over 1 MB. Now comes Hughes and I'm throttled back to under 700k!! Due to changing circumstances, decide to try to HN7000S and upgrade to the ProPlus plan. What a CROC! I am now lucky to get 300-400k download speeds!!!! I got a 1.2MB download once in the last 3 days, and the customer service reps say - your speed is not guaranteed! He refused to pass the ticket to engineering to see if there might be an issue with their setup.

Stay away from Hughes if at all possible! The FAQ on their own web site indicates that the ProPlus plan should receive 750-800k during "peak" times on average. Well, I get half of that, and they don't care!

I cannot wait to see if we can ever get DSL or cable in this area. We will be dropping Hughes like a hot potato if it ever happens.

You have made 4 post and 2 of them are trashing Hughes. I have the Pro Plus plan and have never had a problem in 3 years with having the service. I am going to post my download test results everyday for one week. I am a Hughesnet tech and my system is install correctly and working just the way is should be. Please compare your results on the same site I will be using testmy.net so we can get a clear idea of how your system is working. I will primarily do this at night as I will not get home until after at least 7 CT for the next couple of days.

Hughes is terrible

I've been a hughes customer for 4 years and up until this year I was very please with the service. Download speed were 700-1.0 consistently. However, in the past 9 months my DL speed has dropped to 56-90 during peak times. I've spent hours on the phone with tech support, running the same troubleshooting test over and over again. Today, someone from hughes told me that there was nothing that could be done and I could expect any broadband service to slow down during peak times. It should be a crime to charge someone $70 per month for 56k. I'm going to try WB.

I will be happy to post daily results. I do not go on-line much in the evening, mostly during the day.

I have seen some speed increases lately, but this test is pretty typical.

Oh, I can post tests from a few different times. I shouldn't hit any FAPs with a few tests a day.

I appreciate the assistance. While I may have only made a few posts, that does not negate the experience I am going through. Most of the "bashing" is due to hughes' lack of customer service. I have asked for my issue to be elevated to a higher level, and I am told they cannot do that. So, I am stuck. I have posted a test from testmy.net, and it is typical of the speeds I get. I would welcome any chance to fix this issue, since with Direcway I used to get 2-3MB download speeds at times. I am only asking to be provided the level of service I am paying for, and nobody at hughes seems to care that I'm not. Sorry. It's just very frustrating.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide!
Kevin
