OT: Buy a DVD Recorder (MPEG2) or Wait for the MPEG4's

I was asking around about this myslef...I think you lose the HD look with this though....or I would have done it. I know you lose HD quaility, but would it still be in widescreen format just like watching a DVD?

Home-based real time MPEG4 encoding will probably not be available for 4 years or so.
Furthermore, you'll be on HD-DVD or Blu-ray by then.

I believe the first players are supposed to come out this year sometime.
Blu-ray will be part of the PlayStation3, which comes out next year.

The only problem is that we still have to wait and see which format will win: Blue ray or HD-DVD? (my personal vote is blue ray b/c of greater storage capacity however it is cheaper to retool the present factories for HD-DVD).
