OTA HD antenna feed with non-HD receiver?

I have had the DISH 508 DVR for a while now and don't plan to upgrade to a new HD DVR until maybe next year, when there is more HD content available.

I did, however, recently get a new Sharp LCD HDTV and have hooked up both my 508 and an attic antenna to pick up OTA HD locals. I am in the process of upgrading my HT system and plan to run everything through the new A/V receiver that supports HDMI, component, and analog audio inputs. So, my question is, would it work to run the antenna input for OTA HD locals into the 508, rather than directly into the TV antenna input? I am thinking maybe not because 508 would not be able to tune in the OTA HD signals? I suppose I could just route audio out on the Sharp into another input of the receiver to get the sound into my surround sound system for the OTA HD channels.
