My question is, if I drop the locals package, how can I receive them using OTA means like "rabbit ears". I can get all the locals without paying Dish an extra $5/mth. Anyway, if I dump the local package will the Dish receiver display the local channels OTA, or will I have to put the television set in standard TV mode as if I had no sat or cable? How does this work?

do you have an HD reciver.. If you do then yes you can.. and the reciver will display those channeles when hooked up properly.... (BE FORWARED ON SOME RECIVERS YOU WILL NOT GET GUIDE DATA ON OTA CHANNELS IF YOU DO NOT SUB TO THEM) but you will still be able to watch them.

if you dont have an hd reciver then.. yes you can but you would have to put the tv into standard mode to watch OTA...
