Out of warranty, needs repair..

Apparently my Xbox 360 has died. It was working fine the last time I played but it has not been turned on for 1 or 2 months (have not had time). I tried to play over the weekend and for some reason it won't work. I did not buy the extended warranty.

Do I need to send back to Microsoft for the repair? Has this happened to anyone else? I'm curious how much they are going to charge me for the repair. After paying $400 you would think it would last at least a year. Any suggestions?
 
Call 1-800-4MY-XBOX (1-800-469-9269), they may be able to help you over the phone.

Did you buy yours before Jan 1 of this year? If so Microsoft has extended the warranty for a full year and they will repair it for free. Also if you want to buy an extended warranty from them you can pay $30 per year.

Yes, I bought it the first week they came out, either November or December of 2005. So do I call the number listed above to have it repaired under the extended warranty?

Thanks for the help. I called yesterday and they are sending me a box to ship them the XBOX and are going to repair it for free.

I'm curious to know how many people purchased the extended warranty? She said I could buy a year for $29 or two years for $58. After the problem I've had I think it might be a good idea.

I bought one for 2 extra years. That is 2 years past the original warranty not including, so its not a bad deal at all.
 
yeah. I bought mine release night. A few weeks ago i got the rings of light and called them up. For warranty service it was OK. not great but ok. It was nothing like Apple or Gateway service that I have had experience with but the job got done.

They sent out a box UPS 3 Day from texas. Got here in 3 days b/c i'm in virginia. Your geographic location will determine how long it takes to get to you, ie either 1, 2, or the full 3 days. I bagged it up and went to the UPS store same day. Went back to then UPS 3 Day, got there in three days. On a friday. I recieved an email letting me know they got it. On sunday i got an email tellin me that it had been shipped and i got a track # in that email. Tuesday it actually ships and get here on friday. They will send you a re-furb unit most likely so they can get it back to you fast. They handle eveyihtng like warranty info with the serial numbers and such internally. Overall it was a positive experience and I was up and gaming again in 2.5 weeks.

When I heard about the early overheating problems I got the extended warranty. Haven't needed it so far (knock on wood).
 
Now-a-days its always wise to buy the extended warranty, nothing is build like they used to be. I buy warranties for everything that costs over a certain amount.
