Pictures from CEDIA: Denon receivers

Here are the pictures of latest receivers from Denon. Most (if not all) were actually announced before CEDIA.
From what I was told, we should not expect HDMI 1.3 support until CES and decoders for advanced audio codecs (like Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD) until mid-2007.

I don't think I could afford the electricity to power up the 5805Mk2 for more than a day or two each month. In any case, it sounds like we should hold off until mid-2007 for HDMI 1.3 and new codecs.

Yes, that one is a beast!!!
As for HDMI 1.3 yes, I am waiting for HDMI 1.3, just to be future-proof.
Note, however, that for HD DVD players this is not required: they have built-in decoders for Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby True HD, which send out uncompressed multi-channel LPCM over HDMI, and all HDMI-capable Denon receivers can handle that just fine.

Until HDMI 2.0 comes out, that is...

As I see it, the problem with all these high-end AVRs is it becomes impossible to make connections after you plug in three or four (or in the case of the AVR-5805Mk2, ten) devices. Unless you have free access to the rear of the receiver, you're sliding the receiver forward to make/change connections, then trying to push a 40lb. AVR & 20lbs. of cables back into your cabinet.

Chances are, the AVR you use is going into a HD display with its own multitude of AV inputs, which are wasted if you're buying the megaAVR. It would be nice if Denon and other AVR manufactures had their own monitor displays designed to integrate with their AVRs. Heck, they don't even need speakers since most people are using them with 5.1 or 7.1 speaker layouts.

The flip side of this would be for all of the AV switching to be done in the HDTV, with a single HDMI cable connection to a 5.1/7.1 amp to drive your HT speaker system. I haven't seen that yet, either.

I was thinking it might be closer to 70 lb., but 99? What a brute!

That reminds me of the Nakamichi PA-7 I had. Sucker ran hot, weighed a ton, but it sounded oh so nice. Then I got older (golden ear got a little tinny) and needed 5.1 AC-3 decoding, so it was time for the Marantz SR780 AVR. When it comes time to replace it, I'm thinking about going with a Denon, but I have many other things I want to get first, like an HD DVD player for one.
