Hello, hopefully some of you here can help clear things up.

I have an old low end setup (7yrs?), I think the receiver is model 100(?), with just the small dish. I want to get local channels, but reading the dish site makes it seem like I need to upgrade. Browsing around here, makes me think I might be ok.

My location is Raleigh NC.

When I look at the chart (dishchannelchart) it seems that I must be pointing at 119, and it also seems that all of my locals come off of 119. Am I correct that if I ask for locals, that I will NOT need a new dish or equipment?

Also, what is the best way for me to get these locals painlessly? Online or through customer support? Will I have to say I have a different dish, or will they know I can get it with my current equipment?

Just trying to avoid getting stuck in the middle of the process and/or having to listen to a sales pitch that I dont (hopefully) need.

Thanks!
S.

welcome :wave

all of your locals are on 119, so the dish you have works fine. Easiest way is to add them online via the website, but you could add them through customer servcie too. I wouldnt say anything about the dish, just that you want to add your locals

looks like you will get all your locals (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, UPN, WB, PBS & Univision)

scrabbler, what package do you sub to? There are alot of channels you are missing by not having a Dish500. Especially if you sub to any of the top packages (top180,hbo,sho,etc.)

IIRC Dish Network requires locals subscribers to have a Dish 500. Even though your locals are at 119° and you currently don't need one, Dish has been requiring this to give them the freedom to move things around up in the sky without affecting subscribers. Your model 1000 will work fine with a Legacy Dish 500 set up and you will have quite a bit more program options even with "just" AT60 or AT120.

I only have the Top120 package at the moment. Actually, I'd drop down to Top60 if it included IFC. ;-)

I see the point about them wanting the Dish500 so that they can move channels around, makes sense. However, I'm going to take my chances, and if they move, well, then I'll upgrade and not blame them.

I appreciate all the comments.

Of that list of channels, I only see a few that we might actually watch occasionally. It would take something worthy of me dragging out the 30' ladder, which would then lead to "while you're up there clean the gutters". :)

Thanks for all the info though, I never realized any of that.
