As mentioned real Standby only uses 4w, way less than any refrigerator I know of. I think what the original article was calling standby, is machine on but not running any game/movie.

You can find the source of the electricity usage here. From another article I read about, they were comparing the usage to an 12 cu ft refrigerator. Mine's three times that big.

I pay 10.27 cents per kWh for electricy.

Launch PS3 200W = 0.2 kW * 1 hour * 10.27 cents = 2.054 cents
40GB PS3 135W = 0.135kW * 1 hour * 10.27 cents = 1.38645 cents
