Potential New HD Subscriber Questions

Been with Dish for years, but never HD, and I'm wondering if it's time. A few questions.

I'm in a market that will probably never see HD locals. Is there any discount off HD packages if you don't get locals? Also, I'm not sure I even want HD from Dish if I can't get the locals off air. Will they take my HD receiver back if I am unable to get locals off air? Will diplexers allow me to locate the HD antenna out in the yard with the dish (about 300' from the house) so that I don't have to put one on my house (which is really a non starter), or will the length of the run be too far? How will lots of trees affect off air HD reception? Any info on what the new $10 HD package will include?

I'm sure I have a lot more questions, but I'll start here. Thanks!

Most HD sets have an OTA tuner built in now so you can try before you buy. Check AntennaWeb to see what kind of antenna you need.

I don't see why you would be entitled to a discount as the HD locals are part of local channnel packages and not the HD package.

If you've "been with dish for years" with an antenna mounted 300 ft from the house, then adding HD should work ...assuming you still have clear line of sight to the birds involved.

Charlottesville, VA. We have SD locals on Dish (miracle at that), but will never see HD locals...too small.
