Might be, but you left an expense out. The expense of getting set up with a new provider(including the commonly used excuse from people that do not know how to use their weekends) of missed pay from work, and the cost of the new service. So is a “might”.

I even went back and re-read op in case I’d missed something. Nope. Buyers remorse but have a hard time they’re situation could be bad enough to complain about. Direct’s horrendous hardware, xfinity’s equipment charges, and AT&T, don’t get me started.
One sided contracts are not illegal. People have the option of not signing any contract

Err- actually, I’m pretty sure a truly one sided contract, if proven to be so, is unenforceable. But the Dish, DirecTV, Comcast and Shaky Jack’s Payday Loans are all pretty much defensible.
THe Dish contract is not one sided. Each side receives a benefit. If some goof changes his mind that his problem
Since I am a long term customer, over 20 years now, I seriously looked and looked for somthing close of what I get from Dish in streaming, cable, Direct TV. I went over all of my options for over 6 months. I could not find anything out there that fills my needs. Dish is different than others. Sure they have the same core channels, but in my case, I am grandfathered in on the Super Stations, totally free DVR, with my one vip211k and OTA tuner. Add to that the number of diginets Dish has and other unique channels. I have AT250, Movies, & supers. I called Dish being a senior citizen and long term customer, they gave me a decent discount for 2 years with no increases.
Streaming is fine. I have both the Roku and Fire stick and that gives me free access to Dish Anywhere on the Fire Stick, but to go completely streaming, there are way too many gaps. The DVR service is limited in many cases, the lineup of channels is not there. Sure it is cheaper, but at least at this point not comparable.
People assume that television contracts are one sided because the terms are written specifically to protect the company. People also do not realize what the terms they are signing the contract for. Protecting the company is not one sided, as it offers benefits to the customer as well. I would love for a court to rule that as one sided, as I will then be able to tell my auto and home loan companies that I’m out, we’re good and now have precedence.
Dish probably has scenarios where customers are not under any kind of price guarantee but under a 24 month contract in this case Wisconsin law would prevail and they have to waive the ECF under Wisconsin law for a reasonable period of time. There could be a thing in Wisconsin law that allows Dish to charge new customers the ECF since they 100% price guarantee the first 24 months unlike other providers.
AT&T however waives all agreements in Wisconsin under their law when a price increase is announced because U-Verse TV does not price guarantee the Broadcast Station Fee. DirecTV price guarantees both the base package and the RSN fee only for the initial 12 months for new customers. They have to give Wisconsin customers time to cancel their D* contract without an ECF.
D* also has to let existing customers under a 12/24 month agreement cancel because loyalty discounts do not price guarantee the base package. My friends in WI told me first hand with D* they never had push back when they called in inquiring about price increases and were told by loyalty CSRs you have until X date to cancel with no ETF. If you cancel after that date the ETF will apply as normal.

The consumer is protected from Dish charging a fee to turn off the service. The law doesn't protect him from getting charged with an early termination fee which is partially based on the early discount he gets and the free installation.
