hey all, i have the following problem; hopefully someone can help. i have a dish 500 with legacy quad lnbf. for the last couple days i've tried to point it by following the manual and on-screen insturctions (i.e. point at 119 then skew to get 110). i am able to get 119 and 110 on the left lnb only (the one that's supposed to be used for 110). at one point I actually had both sats but they were reversed: 119 on left lnb, 110 on the right (!), so I guess that rules out faulty lnbf scenario. actually that was the only time I was able to pick up anything on the right lnb. the coax is connected to 1a (left lnb). now there is a small tree that I'm 90% sure is not in the line of sight but who knows. if all else fails i'm going to move the dish but first I wanted to ask you guys.

thanks!

Welcome aboard.

First, it's simply not possible to get 119 & 110 "reversed". Think about the geometry of it.

If you are looking at the face of the dish (in other words if you're facing north-ish), the eye on the right is 119. With a Quad, once you do a Check Switch, the port no longer matters.

Maybe you should cover the 110 eye (the westernmost) with tinfoil and aim for 119, then remove the tinfoil and run a Check Switch.

thanks! so they weren't "reversed" after all. after closer look at the lnbf it's actually marked with the satellite each part of the lnb should be aiming at. now i get signal on both sats with the exception of certain transponders:

1, 3, 5, 7 on 119 and 2, 6, 7, 8, 10, 13, 17, 19 on 110 - is it normal to not get signal on these and if it's not normal, what could be wrong?

thanks a lot guys!

You're welcome!

Without checking the lists at:

I can't tell you - except that some are likely to be spotbeams, others might just be unused, and as long as you get the channels you're paying for, why care?

OK - I went and looked at http://ekb.dbstalk.com/297 and your missing TPs on 119 are spotbeams. I've got no idea where you are, but much of the U.S. doesn't get them.

P.S. I need to put those 3 links on a hotkey - this must be the 100th time I've posted them.
