Rainbow Closes Sundance Acquisition

The Evening Bridge (June 17, 2008) -- Cablevision programming subsidiary Rainbow Media Holdings today completed its $496 million acquisition of Sundance Channel from NBC, CBS and entities controlled by Robert Redford. The deal follows an acquisition agreement between the companies involved that was signed on May 6.

What does this mean?

Sundance is no longer in the Viacom/CBS family, its now owned officially by Cablevision/Rainbow (and I imagine its relationship with Showtime/Viacom is coming to an end). Don't expect to see Sundance HD on Dish until Charlie settles with its parent.

DISH needs SUNDANCE HD and IFC HD

Charlie, please delegate one of your staff to get Sundance HD and IFC HD live by Thanksgiving 2008. Did you even try to purchase Sundance? Looks like cable is getting more and more control of content. This is not good for satellite in the long run.
