I contacted them via the link on their site to gripe about this. Of all the talk around here about adding some new HD programming they reach straight out to the nitch market eh? WTF am I going to watch there? To whom ever likes to swing that way, congratulations! The other 90% of us are going to lock that channel out.

Guys,

do not think that this is bad at all. I know that there are some of us (offended by the theme in the channel) but I do not think we should throw our hands up and say that this is bad. You know what this means that the original concept of cinema 10 is gone. Cinema 9 (as you may want to call it) may be converted to something else. These are 9 channels at your disposal to change or to add. Tell me again, I was not watching all 10 cinema channels.

This action was purely a follow up to the LOGO (viacom) announcment yesterday, for sure. This is not bad because it will increase subs voom is appealing to a demographic that has been over looked for years. More subs, more money, better overall Voom. Viacom did it but not in HD, so how can this be bad in any way? I hate HGTV but that doesn't mean I can't change the Freeking channel! Give us a break all the homophobes in here need to have their heads checked! This is 2004 not 1984.....Grow up.

Overlooked demographic? E! MTV VH1 NBC BRAVO. And stop flaming :) calling people homophobes. Phobia means scared. The strategy goes you call people who think homosexuality is wrong a homophobe, implying that those people are gay themselves. The opinions expressed here have not been personal, they've been general. Let's let everyone give their opinion.

What about the other "gay" channels out there, like Food Network, Bravo-HD, HGTV, etc. Wow! Give this channel a chance. Some of those movies listed would be very interesting to watch in HD....they are classics and top box office attractions a few years ago.

From reading the news aricle this channel sounds as tame as any other channel, except the movies might be better.

Whatever  ......I just don't think this is an issue at all. Voom is SMART and people who think this is wrong or not a good choice are not SMART, in business that is.

Yes, but the Viacom station will have commercials which they should be able to sell at a premium to advertisers wanting to reach the higher income gay demographic. Voom does not have commercials to sell so I don't really understand the logic. Maybe commercials are coming to VOOM exclusives. Did they ever promise that they would be commercial free? I probably wouldn't even mind if the movies weren't interrrupted and the commercials had to be produced in high definition.

Ok....OK, we can be as politically correct or homophobic as we want to be. I just hope the next software release includes the option to de-select a channel from being viewed. Personally, I am not interested in that type of programming

With that being said, it could turn into a plus for Voom.

What about an HD Sci-fi channel?

We all wanted more HD content...well???????? :)

Kidding aside, it's 2004 for christs sake. Many of us may not be quite ready for this, myself included, but it's reality. Get used to it. Besides, no one is forcing you to watch now are they?

So how many homophob's here won't go and take a peek once it's on the air? C'mon now be honest. :D

Being homophobic and having principles are two very different things. It's far too easy to label someone else as wrong (homophobe), when they may actually just be following an age-old belief of theirs and many before them. It simply isn't normal to be homosexual. Likewise, it isn't right to punish people for being gay...but certainly don't entertain their behavior when it punishes us in the mainstream who aren't metrosexual and don't want it forced down our throats.

Why single out this group of people? What about transvestites or parsley farmers? lol What is so special about this particular group? I'd imagine the transvestite channel would be much more interesting.

Parsley farmers? I almost died laughing when I read that. :clap

All of my morals and politics aside, I'm most upset that Voom may consider this a "new" channel. We've all been hearing rumors about 2 new ones sometime soon. DIVINE . . sigh . . . and WealthTV as the "new" channels would be very irritating.

Folks as owner of SatelliteGuys I would like to ask that we please keep the talk on topic and not that of if you feel "Gay TV" is right or wrong. If you wish to discuss your feelings on Gay TV please feel free to discuss it in our Chit Chat area.

We are not here to bash or praise anyones prefrences, we are here to help one another out with their satellite issues, and we do are happy to help people out no matter if they are straight, gay, or whatever.

Thanks for your understanding. :)

Just because I have no interest at all in a channel like this does not make me a homophobe as you call it and what does 2004 have to do with anything. Voom should concentrate on programming that has a more popular interest.

I have never seen a movie that I have wanted to watch on any of the 10 channels anyway. Use an existing channel all you want. Just don't come back and say that this garbage is what is left of the 39 channels promised, or let's see how many new people sign up versus how many existing subs leave. And I actually think that the Wealth channel is more of a waste of bandwidth, along with Auction and Gallery. Moov would have been really cool in the 60's.............................

Seems like many are making a mounain our of a molehill.

This is not a gay porn channel. These are mainstream movies, for the most part, and either you like them or you don't.I am looking forward to seeing some of my favorites among those thatt have been noted.

There was no uproar about the PlayboyHot channel's hard core sexuality nor of its showing woman making love to woman.

And nobody complains when Shaq and Kobi hug and pat each other on the behind on TNT. Or any of the male "bonding" that is inherent in ESPN.:)

As Sean has indicated, there is a Parental Control on your Voom stb, so use it if your morality is offended.

Otherwise, this channel should not affect your lives at all.

Just consider that it is another hd channel that D* and E* don't have. Voom Rocks!

Shelly

I am suprised that nobody noticed that Cinema 10 has been announced to be gay and lesbian channel . Release came out Thursday. You can see it on the AVSFORM under HDTV programming. Not hard core stuff but movies with a gay theme and they will be introduced by a Heddy Lettuce (a transvestite host) I am not kidding.

Here is the exact release.

Gay and lesbian movie channel to debut on VOOM
Yes, this is for real:

JERICHO, N.Y., May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- On June 1, Rainbow Media, the nation's leading high-definition service will break new ground as it launches DIVINE HD a mix of movies and programming of interest to the diverse gay and lesbian audience. Coinciding with Gay and Lesbian pride month, DIVINE HD will be exclusively available to VOOM subscribers throughout the continental United States. DIVINE HD is part of VOOM's HD Cinema 10, a multiplex-style movie suite.

DIVINE's programming will include classic films starring gay icons, musicals, and newer movies with overt and underlying gay themes. Over 100 movie titles have been acquired including films such as: The Producers, The Divine Miss M., Les Cage aux Folles 1 and 2, Birdcage, Kissing Jessica Stein, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Love Valor Compassion, and Outrageous.

Each film will be introduced by one of DIVINE's "HDivas," notable gay personalities who will put each film into the larger gay context for viewers. Everyone from celebrated drag queens to notable authors and directors will provide commentary on the films.

In addition to the introductions, "HDivas" will present original entertainment segments featuring cabaret-style performances. Celebrated drag queens like Hedda Lettuce, Miss Understood and Miss Bettie will entertain viewers. Personalities including: Paris is Burning director, Jenny Livingston, award-winning author Gary Indiana, and renowned Village Voice journalist Michael Musto will provide commentary on the films, plus stand alone entertainment segments.

In addition, VOOM has drawn on the gay and lesbian community to create the overall brand identity for the channel. From logos to music, the look of DIVINE HD will be diverse and inclusive, just like the community it serves.

"DIVINE HD is another prime example of Rainbow Media's innovation by being first-to-market in tapping new and fast growing niches. Always on the cutting edge, Rainbow also conceived and created BRAVO, WE Women's Entertainment and IFC among others. We are committed to providing viewers with both entertaining and innovative gay programming," says Joshua Sapan, President and Chief Executive Officer, Rainbow Media Holdings LLC. "The entertainment will appeal to gay and lesbians as well as straight fans of pop culture, movies and hip entertainment."

Nora Ryan, senior vice president of business development, Rainbow Media Holdings, LLC, says, "DIVINE HD will entertain with a range of favorite movies, and in high-definition those films will look more fabulous than ever! Watching DIVINE HD will be like spending a day hanging out with your funny, clever, gay friend. There are no judgments. No stigma. No political 'agendas,' unless your agenda is to hang out and watch smart TV. Basically it's a channel for Will. And Grace."

According to Michael Musto, "Divine HD will show undisputed classics as well as some gems from the vaults -- those pivotal movies you either didn't know about or relegated to your memory banks, but which defined an era and exuded talent and promise that make them even more fascinating today. Since the films will be shown in high definition, these films will look pristinely close to the way they were originally presented."

In the coming months VOOM will look to expand the DIVINE HD programming beyond movies to showcase theater productions and stand-up specials that would be shot in high-definition.

VOOM HD Originals include: WorldSport HD, international sports in HD; Auction HD, an inside look at exclusive live auctions; unique animation entertainment on Animania HD; artistic masterpieces from around the world on Gallery HD; spine-chilling movies on Monsters HD; 24/7 news shot in native HD on HDNews; experimental non-narrative video art on MOOV; the latest pop music concerts on Rave HD; in-your-face action sports on Rush HD; the best in fashion, food and fine living on Ultra HD; and HD Cinema 10, a 10-channel multiplex of uncut, commercial-free movies in HD.
