This worked perfectly. The disk drive died on my Dish DVR which is a model 625 (with no recognized hard drive, it "thought" it was a 522). After installing a new disk, it would not automatically format the disk as I had been led to believe it would. I used this backdoor solution and it formatted the disk and the DVR works like new. Thanks!

The only danger here is you will erase your HD, but it will make it free of all the clutter that may have accumulated. Used it with my old 722K a few times when it began to act up and it worked fine. Just like reformatting a HD on your PC will. Does not seem to work with the 922 system though...
