[VOOM] Component Video vs DVI

I currently have my Sony HDTV connected to my VOOM receiver with=20
component video because it has HDMI connections and not DVI like on=20
the VOOM box. The installer said I could buy an HDMI/DVI converter=20
cable for about $75.00. Is it worth it? Will I be able to see a=20
difference? Anybody?

You can buy those cables for about half that. Can't comment on the picture
difference because I have not compared. My older Mitsu HD set doesn't have
DVI or HDMI.

These cables starting at $16.25 will work just as well: http://svideo.com/dvihdmi2.html

Whether you will see a diff or not may depend on your TV. If you have a fixed pixel digital display with a full digital signal path, it might look better (Samsung DLP, etc).

If you have a fixed pixel display that converts HDMI to analog and back to digital again (Sony LCD RPTV, etc), or a analog display device (CRT, etc) it may not make a difference. Have to try it on your particular TV and see.

I paid about $15 for a DVI/HDMI cable for my Sony LCD RPTV and it works perfectly. FYI, I've looked my arse off and don't noticed any appreciable difference between component and DVI/HDMI; both look fantastic! I agree with rvsixer, sometimes it just depends on your TV.

What type of Sony do you have is it a RP LCD? I have a DLP and notice=20
a big improvment using HDMI and DVI. It all depends on the display=20
component video is an analog connection.

Not sure if it would benefit you on that TV.
For me on my Samsung DLP, the DVI really makes skin tones & colors=20
look more accurate and POP off the screen. On my friends 2 year old=20
46in. Sony RP HDTV, my cable made very little difference in picture=20
quality. Pacificable.com has pretty good cables reasonably priced,=20
not sure what the return policy is though. But you dont have to spend=20
a fortune to get a good cable.=20

Re: [VOOM] Re: Component Video vs DVI

I'm using the DVI cable that comes with the VOOM install on my 50" RCA DLP
and it is definitely better than component video from A/B experiementation.
Are you all kind of saying that you aren't using that DVI cable and went out
and bought an aftermarket one and are getting better results than from the
one included with the VOOM receiver?
