[VOOM] Voom and Voice Over IP

I subscribe to Vonage's Voice over IP service and i
was wondering if anyone knew whether Voom Receivers
will work with voice over IP?

Also does anyone know how to identify and contact a
local installer? I live on a hill and OTA is a
problem. I would like to talk with an installer to
see what local channels I can expect to get before
cancelling cable.

Thanks

Marc

I had my STB connected to my vonage for 5 months. I have no idea if it
worked or not since they weren't really using it for much that I am aware of
at that time. I just assumed it did. :)

Chris -- thanks for the reply!!

I pursued the issue by called Voom and I spoke to a
customer service representative and I was told the
recievers would not work with Voice Over IP yet I have
seen numerous posts from other who claim it will.
What is the downside if it does not work -- will the
receiver not function??

Also in speaking to the customer service
representative about local channels she claimed that I
could sign up and then if the installer determines
that i cant receive local channels i can cancel with
no penalty. I am a little leary of this after reading
about the many installation problems and poor customer
service especially when I am signing up for a 6 month
committment under the new promotion.

Has anyone signed up and then cancelled before the
installation was complete and if so did you run into
any trouble?

Thanks

Marc

I don't know if VOOM does, but it hasn't been an issue with the other
satellite company. I don't have Vonage though, I have AT&T VOIP.

Re: [VOOM] Re: Voom and Voice Over IP

Does this new feature caller ID mean there is a new software revision?
On another note, I called VOOM just now to see if I could get a second
receiver and in some way participate in their latest promotion. It's only
for new subscribers. Same policy in place.
If you own your receiver you would have to buy a second one and pay for the
install. If you are leasing your receiver than you have to lease the second
one at 9.50/month plus the $5 for the extra box plus $199 install fee. No
relaxation of this policy and no way to allow a unit that you own that is
not authorized to be used as a settop box for OTA only.
Price for existing customers who are paying $39 for VOOM goes up by
$10/month in January. There needs to be some compensating promos for
existing customers at that time or I will consider moving on. I need a
second box and only the $5 charge monthly to make any kind of committment to
continue with VOOM in spite of how much I like the service. A firewire link
will keep my business or attract me to whoever gets it first. I have a hard
drive recorder already so I don't need the DVR, just the firewire interface.
