If new scrambling methods are on the horizon, do you think there will be a receiver price drop once the hackers get foiled? I like my receiver but I want blind search. Don't know if I could hold out.

It already started happening. As of last Monday most popular receivers (Coolsat Pro 4000, Pansat 2700A, Fortec Lifetime Ultra) dropped $50-$60 in price at several dealer sites. I picked myself up a Coolsat for $180 (Was $250) at Ba-Sat.

Yup I expect to see prices drop over the next month when Dish Network switches all Premium Channels to Niagra 2, and I am hearing all of ExpressVu could be moved to the new security by next month as well.

Bye Bye pirates. :D

ExpressVu should be done early next month....I hear them crying now "I got no porn anymore" :D

The sooner the better.....as for the equipment prices...yep
people are dumping their stock due to that reason.

It still boggles my mind why people would want to pirate it? Oh boy...I get my jollies because I steal TV...I had Dish for 4 years and there wasn't enough "compelling programming" (as Charlie puts it) for me to keep Dish. I still have them for locals, but FTA works good for me :)

OH good think, i could wait. Hey! is there a receiver that will do analog and mpeg2 or even digicpher? then i could replace my old c bander.

It will also mean that the Dish receivers in my inventory (upgrade trade ins) that have no outstanding balance, yellow cards, and are customer owned will go up in price.

Those pirates who went to fta and deactivated their receivers with blue cards will hurt if Dish decides to charge them $50 for a new card. It would serve them right.

Hi, guys:

I got confused here, sorry I didn't follow the news. Why "new scrambling methods are on the horizon" and "Dish Network switches all Premium Channels to Niagra 2" cause the FTA receivers' price drop?

Anyone gives some details?

Thanks

Michael

Most FTA receivers have been known to accept an illegal software download to open up the Dish Network & ExpressVu channels. The card system (blue one) is called Nagravision 1. Dish & ExpressVu are changing to the yellow card, which is Nagravision 2. They are slowly doing this by section…porn, movies, etc

Once they have gotten everything on Nagra 2, the boxes will get the hackers exactly what we get
-NASA
-Dish 101
-Angel One

So they will be useless to them and they will be selling them at a low cost because they have no use for it (do you really think someone bought 10 Pansat 2500’s for The Tube or CCTV9?) :D

Baiscally Nagra 1 is hackable...Nagra 2 isn't

DO NOT TURN THIS INTO A HACK THREAD PEOPLE :)

No kidding. I sub to Dish now and I swear we don't watch more than two hours of that junk a week. My wife likes Food TV and if I could a la carte that one, the rest would go into Deep 6.

G10R, PBS, Doc Scott, Gol TV, and the feeds are enough for anybody.

I have to laugh because when I first got Dish, I had 4 receivers, AT120, locals & the Sports Pack..had that for a year

Then saw the light (or should I say, the money) and dropped to AT60, locals, and 2 receivers because other than FSN North (my RSN) I really didn’t watch much between the two. I had the Sports Pack for wrestling that was on Sunshine Network (but that is mostly gone)

2 months later I dropped to just locals and one receiver because I found FTA : )

G10 stuff, Doc Scott, the sports feeds, and the audio on ExpressVu usually consumes my time. I use to think I needed all the Sports stuff on Dish because that was the only way to see it….boy was I wrong!!

I get TONS more hockey with FTA than I would with Dish….and when NFL starts up, that analog receiver will get a workout (there is a lot of preseason games on analog KU)

...yet.
Nothing is 100% bullet proof. It'll take some time but I'm sure sooner or later it will be hacked. N2 is just a new challenge for many hackers (and FTA receiver makers maybe).
Also, when Dish switches to N2, FTA receivers will still not be useless. They will still work with what are they originally made for - FTA.

I didnt say they were going to be useless...I said they would be useless to the hackers because if they can't get what they wanted, they'll dump them

most of the games are on SBS6 (74), AMC9 (83) and G11 (91).
These are the games that are locally produced, and not the national games (Fox, CBS)...but you can get Fox & CBS on G10 so that helps out :)

I know the Packer games are usually on C-Band (need a 10 footer for those)

You're not saying you got a sub for locals only, are you? If so, how did you do that? What kind of sub is that? One time I tried to just get just my locals from DTV but they wouldn't do that.

D dropped that option several years ago, but E still allows it. You have to pay an additional $5/month for an administration fee on top of the locals subscription price.

You might add G10 to that list also because the west coast teams use it sometimes.
And, although not a backhaul, but some of the fta channels at G10 are part of the Dallas or KC regional preseason networks.

yep...locals and WPIX (for WB...this is before I found FTA)

Since I own the equipment (a Dish 301), I was able to sub to just locals. Have had it this way since Jan 04

Invoice shows like this

Duluth/Superior locals---5.99
WPIX-------------------1.50
Access fee-------------5.00

DirecTV doesn't allow that anymore and DIsh only allows it if you own the equipment. Lease needs AT60 minimum (or Dish Latino or Great Wall...but its a minimum of $25)

iceberg, does this mean if i buy a "clean" dn reciever and hook it up to an 18" dish i would be able to get locals for around 11.00 a month?
