Reception outside a spotbeam

Just curious if anyone has setup service outside a particular spotbeam, especially the LA stations? I have Direct and Dish and use Direct to pick up locals out of LA for Dodger games. I live 450 miles from LA and get exceptional reception in HD on Direct. I thought about just using my Dish for this and "moving" to LA for the locals. I get my home locals OTA in brilliant HD and thought I might save myself $80 a month during baseball season. Anyone have any success with living quite away from LA and still being able to get the locals? Just curious. Thanks

Dish Networks spotbeams for LA do not cover Northern California

I would say maybe going through AAD for distants but they only carry the Big4 in HD

Directv still can sell distants for NY & LA and they are CONUS so if I wanted to I could get LA locals in Minnesota (at least the Big 4)

It is wierd that I get Direct locals for LA with no problem. I moved there last year and could only get KHJ in HD but this year I get them all. I didn't think the spotbeam for Direct LA locals would reach as far as Northern Calif but they do. Do bad Dish doesn't reach a bit more. I'll have to play with these transponders at home this weekend and see if maybe they might come through. Thanks

Based on what Iceberg posted, LA locals aren't on spotbeams for Direct. They're on CONUS, which means where ever you are in the CONtinental US (Florida for example) you could receive LA locals.
