Recordings picture voice out of sync

A friend of mine just got his Hopper/Joey setup a few weeks ago and said that on some, but not all recordings, the audio is out of sync with the video by a very noticeable amount.

I suggested the usual D* trick of skip-back to fix it, but he said that doesn't help.

Anything else I can suggest to him?

sure. try lowering audio settings. if that doesnt help then i assume there is a surround sound involved. see if it happens bypassing the surround sound. if the tv puts audio out to the suround system, try straight sound from hopper/joey instead.

But exactly what do you mean 'lowering audio settings'?

by default it is set to dolby. if the tv or receiver is fairly old, it may take an extra 1/4 second or so to process the sound. changing it to pcm often makes a noticable difference.
