Remote Access

A CSR I spoke with last night entered a chat session with the "online specialists" and she said that they know there is a problem, but they don't have an ETA on a resolution.

Guess I'll add my problem to this thread although it seems a bit different than the problems noted above. I can log into my account but the grid I am seeing is not mine but a generic one as it is missing all the local channels and Cinemax. I can choose one of the shows listed and set it to record without a problem so I don't believe I have any problem with my network setup. The biggest problem I am having is I can no longer access the "MY DVR" portion of remote access. I either get a page saying I need to go into network setup and reset the connection or I get a black white page.

I called Dish and they were absolutely clueless. I don't think either of the reps I spoke with ever used remote access so explaining things to them was very difficult. Everything was working fine until this past week or so.

Does anyone have any idea what might be my problem?

Thanks.

TH

Your seeing the same thing I am. It has to be something broken on Dish's end, not ours.

Here's the steps I've been through without success.

1. I've verified network connectivity; I can ping the IP of the receiver from a computer on the same network.
2. I've released and renewed the receiver's IP from my router and the receiver then verified the IP on both ends
3. I've done a hard reset of the receiver.
4. Cleared all of the relevant cookies from my computer.
5. Tried multiple browsers, IE, Firefox, Opera
6. Tried accessing the receiver remotely from outside my home network

Every since DISH added the off line option of creating timers through the satellite , this remote access feature has stopped working. I have told them by email and on the phone with the tech department as well. Guess what they said? They have had no other complaints about this problem. Yada- yada-yada- RIGHT!

Let's prove them wrong. Here's an online "petition" where we can track affected users. Spread the word:

Dish Network Remote Access sufferers

I have a 622, 722 and a 612. The 622 works fine the other 2 don't. They were working 2 weeks ago. When logged in at the remote access site, I select preferences then receivers. My 622 shows a "no slingbox" option that is set to no slingbox. The other 2 receivers do not have a no slingbox option. I suspect the Dish broadband network needs to identify the receivers as "NO SLINGBOX" in order to function. As usual calling Dish was useless. The guy told me to call the Sling people. I guess we just wait until they figure this out.

my guess

I have no problem with remote access but i haven't been in for a few weeks until yesterday. I noticed the sling stuff too. If i go into preferences, then receivers, it gives me options about Slingbox and which tuner I want remote access viewer to be associated. So i think they are prepping the site for the 922 and if I where to have one in place of my 722 I would watch my programing from TV1 or TV2 on remote access site itself... These changes plus the new satellite change = problems with the site during transition.

Oh for the record connected via homeplug, linkys Wireless G router, macafee firewall.

Funny, I have the exact same setup as you except that my 722 is a 722k. Since the beginning of the week my 722k and 612 were offline but the 622 was working fine. Now today, all 3 receivers are offline.

I called 'India' and they did admit that there is a known problem ticket out there.

I got tired of them apologizing over and over so I nicely (it's the Holidays) said that if was a known problem and not something specific with my account, and if they would add me to the problem list, I wouldn't bother them anymore and wished them a good weekend.

But the short story is that YES, RA is broken at Dish's end.

That's the bad news, but the good news is that it's happened before and everytime it's happened the new version was a great step up from the gunk that was there before. The good think is that they are really trying to improve, but their quality control and testing stinks. They really need a PMO office badly!

The receiver is fine menu-6-1-9, 1, reset connection, done seems to work with an IP, mask, DNS, and MAC. The Remote Access site of old, says both 722s are yellow and 622 is correctly off-line, which I have not had before although it has been a week or two. My DSL goes through one switch to this laptop and both 722s. I tried the DishNetwork site and it finally works from the old bookmark but the reference from the sling site gave me an invalid name/password and hung me there. The Dish site does not get all the icons in Safari, initially. They say I owe 134 but they take only 124 and otherwise seem happy for AEP+extra 722+622, locals, HD+ with a $10 credit for some unknown time--who's arguing. The only sling choices seems to be continue offline or list everything but no HD only. They sure have messed it up. Dish to sling hangs on https://customersupport.dishnetwork.com/customercare/equipment/processSatTimer.do and a reload on that gives 35 entries in everything, whoopie.

As of today I have now lost the 622. Now all of the buttons for my receivers are yellow. My 622 no longer shows the "No Slingbox" option and it no longer works. I'm convinced the system needs to identify the connection as a Dish receiver and not a Slingbox device. Most likely Dish knows this. Is there any way to contact a person that is involved in fixing things?

The only direct way I know is to send a Tweet to @dishnetwork on Twitter. They may not know but I know that they do pass on Tweets to the right people as emails or internal IM's. They really do try to bypass the bureaucracy.

I'll add myself to the list. Been using RA mostly with complete success for months and months, and suddenly it doesn't work on either my 622 or my 722. I can log on and look at the grid, but when I try to go to My DVR or anything else that's actually on the box, I get a communications error and instructions to go reset my broadband settings. I started doing some troubleshooting on my boxes and my router with no success, but now from reading this thread, it's obvious this is a Dish problem. Rather sad that this has been going on for several weeks with no resolution or ETA.

C'mon Dish, all the other providers are taking RA seriously now, so please start treating this with the same professionalism as the rest of your service. Oh and by the way, where the heck is our native iPhone app (not Sling, just RA)?? I thought that was "coming soon" 6 months ago?

I'm a happy Dish customer overall but sometimes I think they farm out their coding to college interns.

I'm having the same problems. Used remote access many times in the past, but haven't been able to access my DVR online for the past two weeks or so.

What the... My 3 VIP receivers have worked throughout this period, including my test just now. What's different about my setup? About the only thing I can think of that's out of the ordinary is my SOHO account with a static IP.

Or are you all talking about the satellite-only remote programming?

I can still program an event but if I select "My DVR" I get this message;

You have attempted to access a feature that requires your receiver to be connected to your home broadband network. Please ensure your receiver is currently connected to the Internet. If you are still experiencing issues, please try the following steps on your receiver:

1. Press Menu on the remote
2. Select System Setup (6), Installation (1) then Broadband Setup (8)
3. Select Network Setup (1), then Reset Connection

Once you have confirmed you are online, just refresh your browser and click on the My DVR tab.

My broadband connection is connected/online and has an IP.
If you select "preferences" then "Receivers" on the remote access website are your receivers shown as "No Slingbox/Receiver settings" or just "Receiver Settings"? If you can access the "My DVR" tab I bet your receivers appear "No Slingbox/Receiver Settings"
