remote not working with joey

Did google search and tried un-pairing then pairing several times. Tried manual un-pairing several times but did not work. Tried rebooting joey and did not work.
When I push any button on remote, the closed captioning turns on and If press any button the second time, closed captioning turns off.
Any suggestions are welcome, Thanks.

Tried another remote? sounds like a remote that was dropped and circuit board was damaged.

It has been dropped in the past but not recently. Just tried pairing my other remote and will not pair with joey. I did unpair the original remote before trying to pair second remote.

Good point, unpaired from hopper, paired with joey and it works. Thanks.
Just bought a new remote.
