I’m looking to remove the hard drive from my VIP722 to use as an external hard drive for my ViP 211k. My objective is to save the recorded shows on my old 722 and save the expense of of purchasing a new external hard drive. I’m assuming it would take a little wiring to install a USB and an external power supply.

Any insight on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Way more trouble than it would be worth. The formats aren't compatible so the drive would need to be formatted for the 211 thus wiping your recordings.

New external hard drives are cheap enough and then you would have a new external hard drive. :)

If your 722 isn’t F.O.R.D, the recordings could be transferred to an extrrnal which the 211k would recognize.

The ViP 722 External Hard Drive (EHD) has a different format than the EHD for the ViP 211, so you cannot transfer your recordings off the 722 to an EHD and then plug the EHD into the 211 to view them. If you do plug in the 722 EHD, the 211 will ask if you want to Format the drive, wiping out your recordings.

Sorry, been there, tried it. You can use the 722 EHD on a Hopper, though, just not the 211 or Wally.
