Former Alabama running back Trent Richardson granted a 17-year-old cancer survivor her wish, accompanying the Hueytown (Ala.) High School student to her senior prom Saturday night.
Richardson, wearing a white tuxedo, attended the event at the Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham, Ala., with Courtney Alvis, who was wearing a red dress, WBRC-TV reported.
Alvis began receiving chemotherapy treatment a year ago and is now undergoing maintenance chemotherapy.
Her uncle — who had some connections to the University of Alabama — got in contact with some of Richardson's friends, who got the request to the Heisman Trophy finalist.
Richardson, who did not get the chance to attend his own senior prom, said he agreed because his mother is a cancer survivor.
"I did it out of my heart," Richardson said. "I'm lucky to be here with Courtney."
