I got this box off of eBay, today;

RJ-1000ATSC ATSC QAM Digital TV Tuner NEW - (item 230162299150 end time Aug-22-07 20:00:00 PDT)

There is a good thread on its capabilities on the AVS Forum;

Record HD TV Signals - RJTech RJ-1000ATSC HDTV Tuner Box - AVS Forum

Even with its limitations and quirks, I am very happy with it and know that it's worth every cent that I paid for it.

I thought I would wait for the $40 coupon in January 2008, but I couldn't wait, knowing that those boxes would not have component video or QAM capability.

It appears to be a good box for cheap digital OTA.

Would have been better to purchase an old DirecTV receiver or even a PrimeDTV receiver. Should have asked someone. That receiver is ATSC but not HDTV regardless of what connectors are on the back.

Did he say HDTV? NO he said Digital

I have a couple old Voom boxes that I use for digital OTA only...not HD

And last I checked those old Direct boxes need a satellite connection (I know Dish does)

Iceberg, I only mentioned HDTV because the HDTV word is in the eBay page. There are some DirecTV receivers that can be used for cheap real HDTV see link below.

The main point is that the receiver can be used as a QAM cable tuner or be used on a head end where standard broadcasts NTSC signals are inadequate.
