Woke up today to a major Roku UI update. Looks more and more like Amazon/Fire TV. Prominent and offensive ad sidebar, difficult to locate settings to disable them, smaller app icons. Suggesting content I would never watch.

Why do they need to change it? It was perfect before.

It also continues to suggest content from the Roku TV app when I previously deleted it.

Can't wait to see what happens when Fox buys this.

Actually, if they keep f**king with it, I will throw all my Rokus in the trash and use my connected HTPC's to watch what I want.

It is pretty easy to turn off most annoying of the new home screen features. The setting is under Settings -> Home Screen -> Recommendation Row/Quick Access -> Hide/Show

There WAS an option to leave the trial and switch back....may not exist anymore

That option does show on this video, but did not on the previous one.

Personally, I would get rid of the Added Suggestion rows and bring the Apps back to the Top and your pretty much back to the old way.

They did make a mention of not being able to make changes in the menu on the left, which seems Odd ...
IF thats the case, why did they leave it on the screen ?

My major issues is that HUGE ad on the right side, WTF?
From what I understand you need to be standing on your rightfoot chanting a gregorian hymn for this to work

To remove the massive ad from your Roku's home screen, press the Home button 5 times, then press Up, Right, Down, Left, Up. In the secret menu, set Cycle scrollable ads to "Always Disabled" and Cycle home screen ad banner service to "Demo 3". Finally, restart your Roku. [1]

Additional Steps to Clear Clutter
Beyond the secret menu, you can remove sponsored wallpapers, hide promotional app rows, and clear specific ads by adjusting your core Roku Support settings. [1, 2]

For this reason I have been watching my app's using my Sony TV instead. It is actually easier to switch from the TV/app's and Dish H3 than using the Roku. Plus for some reason my TV would switch to Roku when I was changing channels on my H3. My Roku is unplugged now.
