Does anyone know what Dish's rules are for how often you can add or remove owned equipment? For example, turning off receivers in guest rooms when there are no guests visiting--but still keeping the receivers on the account and plugged in to receive software updates, etc.

If you own it, you can activate and deactivate as you please.
The reason this doesn't work with leased receivers is because our system expects the equipment to be returned, and you do get charged for unreturned equipment if they're deactivated for long enough
You have to have at least one receiver active at all times. Other than that, you can activate/de-activate at your pleasure.

You can add and removed owned equipment anytime. However if you do this often enough, you may get a call from the Audit Police as its behavior that would indicate piracy.
