Running Citrix GoToMyPC and/or VPN Over HughesNet Gen4 / Exede

Does anyone have experience with running Citrix GoToMyPC over HughesNet Gen4 or Exede? I received a call from a client yesterday who was disappointed with Go To My PC performance over their new Gen4 system. Pretty sure GoTo is VPN-based, and will take a performance hit over satellite as a result. But, I would hope that the additional speed and latency control of these systems would be enough to mitigate the performance hit. HN is suggesting that Gen4 will support IPSEC VPN, although it will take a hit because of the encryption overhead.

Before I descend into the morass of HN tech support looking for answers on this, I thought I would throw it out to the community here to see what experience or advice others might have about this issue. What has been your experience so far using GoToMyPC / VPN over the newer systems? Any tricks or tweaks to the OS or modem available/needed?

I found this info on the Citrix web site:

I have been using LogMeIn (which is better then GotoMyPC and FREE) for the past three weeks over Exede and have been having no issues at all.

This has come in handy as I work on a radio show on Sundays and I can actually control everything at the radio studio from remote all over satellite by using LogMeIn. :)

My Gen4 isn't installed yet, but I know a little about VPN over satellite. First, you should find out what your complaining customer is comparing the current performance to. If he/she had terrestrial broadband before, the complaint on an otherwise properly installed satellite system is almost certainly related to previously unexperienced latency. If not - and the customer is comparing it to a previous satellite experience - you may have an issue with transmission errors. If your SVT shows an otherwise good path, it may be a weak transmitter, or a sub-par TX cable path. Modem problem is possible, but pretty far down on the list.

Before you do any hardware troubleshooting however, I suggest you recommend to the customer that he uninstall/reinstall/update his VPN software

I don't use VPN on my gen4, but know a few that are with no problems.
