Satellite Channels Moving to Streaming Only

I don't believe there are any legal issues preventing the recording of streaming content because other platforms have recording capability of the same content. Frndlytv is one example.
Contracts that allow or disallow recording via streaming, could be different between providers.

Of course YTTV would have that since they are all streaming.

Dish is still under a carriage deal, signed with Disney in 2022, that might of never been thought about, since it was all Satellite then.

Might be something that needs to be added to the next contract, which will be this year, I believe October 2025.

Same for other channels also.

I don't believe there are any legal issues regarding recording content from streaming channels. That was made clear way back in the 70's when the courts ruled that people can legally use their VCR's to record content for private purposes.

That was for personal use via OTA.

Has absolutely nothing to do with streaming.

Wow - and to think that I used my VCR for years to record shows from cable tv. I don't think I ever used it to record OTA.
Still has nothing to do with Dish offering DVR ability on streaming content, which is what people were posting about.

And no one brought up VCRs until you did, you wish to use one for recording, go for it, good luck.

Whether it's OTA, cable, satellite, or streaming and how it's recorded is irrelevant. The issue is recording of content, and if it isn't used for commercial purposes, it's perfectly legal.
This has absolutely nothing to do with being legal for personal use.

The only question is, if Dish is allowed to offer DVR service on streaming channels, that will/will not be in the contract with Disney, for example.

I can see channel 252 - Law and Crime - is moving to streaming only on March 12, 2025. The slate on 244 show it as well as Dish's channel update page.

That means BBC News (281), FMC (387), Pursuit (393), and soon Law and Crime have been removed from satellite and made into streaming only.

It has been announced that Binge TV is now moving from satellite to Streaming only. Starting 11/19/2025. The message is on Channel 229.

What does it say at the link for you? When I go to that link it says:

Grab your DISH remote and press the Guide button.

Step 2

Try tuning to DISH Channel 198 (DISH scapes). You can type the channel number directly on your remote or scroll up or down the Guide to find it.

Step 3

  • If you can see the DISH scapes content on Ch. 198, you're good to go! No additional actions needed.
  • If you see a "Connect to View" message on Ch. 198, don't worry! You just need to connect your DISH Hopper receiver to the internet. We have easy-to-follow instructions for you.
  • If you are unable to see Ch. 198 in your guide, you most likely will need to upgrade your system to a Hopper receiver. Contact us at 800-333-3474 and speak with an agent on what special upgrade offers are available.
1- My French Bouquet channels moved to steaming in July 2025. Since I fight with DISH and nothing at all does any progress about:
* Guide is very limited in time: Not available, or a few hours at the most a day and a half in advance!
* The time scheduled is off time of the streaming and my recording is off, so is useless.
2- I am thinking to drop the service, but I have many old recording I want to keep, I have no good solution about to play them back without the Hopper:
* I saved my recording on an external drive, but the data are encoding(encryption)! How to find a substitute player?
* I have been a client for 27 years, may I keep the Hopper, in other words: is leasing of the equipment make me the owner?

All these questions were already voiced to DISH support, but I never got any useful answers!!!!!
