I called in today to activate a second hopper. i had the rep run the numbers they came back as clean not leased and no money owed on it. so i said activate it. and he turned around and said that dish no longer allows two hoppers on one acct.. you used to be able to one leased and one purchased!!! i call BS on that!!! since when is dish no longer allowing people to buy receivers from third party dealers aka solid signal. the rep said it would be a leased box. did i just deal with a complete idiot or has dish changed there policy? i am thinking i dealt with a complete idiot. the rep even said there going after people with more than one hopper and shutting them off.

He wasn't lying. One of our techs just this week tried to do the same thing for a customer and was shut down, even after an hour talking to Loyalty

I think there may be a problem with account sharing. Giving a friend or family member the second Hopper. Can Dish tell if a Hopper is moved from the account address. I could be wrong but that is my best guess.

Is the issue with the second hopper? Or can you no longer add "owned" receivers? Could I still buy a Wally and add it to my account as an "owned" receiver?

For a company that keeps losing subs, they sure are trying to anger and run off more subs.
No, they aren't. Probably less than 5% of subs have or want 2 hoppers. It's so rare, I haven't seen an instance of a two-hopper setup in one house in several years. Where this issue comes in now is if people have a vacation property, etc., where in the past, they could have 2 Hoppers on the same account at two locations. Now it will take 2 accounts, and the real issue is the cost. A win for Dish, with a new 2-year agreement at a higher cost than an extra Hopper for $15, but like I said, it's so rare, a Hopper 3 with an extra Joey works in almost every case and saves the customer money on equipment costs

That is still, roughly 230,000 subscribers, in today's world for Providers, every sub counts, both current ( get them to stay) and the possibility of new subs.

I have a 2nd house ( that I am moving into full time in January, selling the other), currently have YTTV during Football Season.

While staying there for a few days, used the service, all it did was ask me if I was out of my normal viewing area ( different locals), no extra charge or anything.

I have a hopper 3 and 2 joeys. Never wanted 2 hoppers so that's probably a correct percentage.

YTTV requires you to check in with your registered address every 3 months. According to their very fine print they can take your locals away or cancel your service outright. If they don't throw a fit before you move, you need to go into your account and change physical address when you do. I think you can change like 2 or 3 times a year. If you're going to cancel after football season, I don't guess it matters

That part is correct.

Actually you can use is in a 2nd/vacation home as much as you want, but still have to check in at your main home every 3 months.

You cannot use it in both locations at the same time, but that is not what we are talking about.

I have to say that when I had the Hopper 3 , now sitting in a drawer in my office not being used, I never ever used 16 tuners and recorded 16 things at the same time. I really don't know why anyone would want a second hopper in the same house especially with that $15.00 fee added to it. :smug

Bruce, expect them to nag you in 90 days for you to re affirm your on your original network ... in other words, take your phone to the original network and refresh .. unless your already out of there.

Thats what I had to do when trying to have it at both my work location and home.

So then if have 6 or 8 TVs just the single hopper does it, as long as you lease or buy the joeys for each extra set?

I'm well convinced that the whole hopper-joey paradigm was come up with as an answer to account stacking. The extra rx's have to correspond with the master box. But still, couldn't they verify 2 hoppers are in the same household by wi-fi connectivity?

I used it at both locations at the same time fine, until the 3 month check rolled around.

This is the part that I talked to them about and they said, Oh ya, you can do that ... I told them She was down South and I was up North working ... they said, thats fine ... it didn't work after 3 months, I talked with them and told them that I explained everything to them what I was doing when I signed up and they said it was fine ... kinda pissed me off telling me one thing and then changing it.

That was the nice thing about Sat, they didn't really care, we were set up at Home and at the Cottage, it worked Great.

Its no wonder people have trouble keeping thier subs.
