So then if have 6 or 8 TVs just the single hopper does it, as long as you lease or buy the joeys for each extra set?

I'm well convinced that the whole hopper-joey paradigm was come up with as an answer to account stacking. The extra rx's have to correspond with the master box. But still, couldn't they verify 2 hoppers are in the same household by wi-fi connectivity?
how does that help with acct stacking. back in the day our neighbors ran coax in trenches and split the bill. i have never known direct or dish to come out and look to see who's stealing satellite and then there was the smart card pirates!!!

I guess you never heard of the Dish Audit Team. While on the phone you had a certain amount of time (like 30 seconds) to get the serial number off your reciever. No matter if you were blind and in a wheelchair-excuses fell on deaf ears. If you failed the box got cut off.Eventually Dish weighed the theft vs bad PR and started using other methods to deter stacking.
I hear most of them are now working for ICE. :)

I remember some posters here called them audit nazis. Luckily they never called me. I had 2 receivers that were connected to the same phone line.

If I understand your question correctly-this was back when most people still had home phones. I believe they would call you-not the other way around.
I've never had more than one box I never dealt with them.
Oh, I must be mis understanding ... I thought they were talking about when a Sub calls in with an Issue ...

Your saying they are making Cold Calls to subs ... didn't know that ever happened.

"Audits". They'd have you read #s off of the setup screens on all rx's on account. If couldn't do it within allotted time, it was a fail. But that's first I've heard of them doing it with just 2 active rx's- usually it was 4 or more that would trigger it. I had to do a svc call once to house with 2 722s and 2 322s to satisfy them.

It also locked in a FEE structure you couldn't avoid if you used the Hopper /joey system. That is why they wanted to do away with older receivers and go with just hopper system now.

Thats when you write them all down and have the numbers handy, just in case.

I have 2 hopper 3 . They actually changed the billing a few years back so I pay a regular fee for the second hopper. I have a total of 5 box's . I remember when everyone said that you could not have a vip dvr and a hopper on the same account I had no problem adding it. I own all my equipment and always have so maybe that's the reason or maybe when I call in and speak to the customer service rep I have a way of getting things done.

It was a rolling number that changed every 30 seconds or so. You weren't allowed to mute the phone in order to have someone at a different location on another phone reading them to you.

I thought they said they were looking for the Rec ID or the Card access numbers.

If thats the case and they Still had issues with theft, thats on them.

They should have easily cured that by checking IP addresses, they can do that every 30 seconds if they want the hassle.

Another company that doesn't trust or help the customer .... another great reason to NOT have thier service.

What ever happened to helping the sub and using COMMON Sense .... If I am home and have a Cottage, I can't have service?
Your going to turn me off because I can't give you numbers from the cottage ????

No, it was the location ID from the sys info screen. They could confirm location by the phone line, but if you didn't have all your receivers plugged in and you had multiple receivers, you were a target for the audit. This started before the receivers had internet connectivity and landline phones were still in every home.

I remember that, way back in time ...
D* did that as well ... except they weren't Stupid enough to expect EVERY customer to have a Phone Jack in Every room that had a recvr.

A lot of customers only had 1 phone jack and used the phones that you could have 4 handsets work off I line (sometimes more than that.)

Yep, it was rare to have a phone jack near the TV, it was always on the other side of the room! Only exception was if they had digital cable, the cable company would always install a phone jack.

Or, you know, you could just go along with the Ts&Cs and get the Pay As You Go for your vacation place. If you can afford the upkeep on a place away from home, you shouldn't have to worry about paying for a part-time 2nd account and the receiver(s) for that location.

Or, if you have Hopper at your home and reasonable internet access there and at your vacation site, DishAnywhere works great. You even get your home Locals if you have the OTA module or pay for Locals.
