I just bought my second HDTV and had directv come out to upgrade my regular DVR to an HD DVR (I already have one installed upstairs on an HDTV). The question is, the installer said he couldn't do the job without installing a second line for the new receiver. I don't get it because I already have one HD DVR receiver for another tv (6 mos. ago) and the installer didn't have to put in a second line for it I am in a finished townhouse and the cables downstairs are at the opposite end of the house than where the cable outlet is in the living room. He did leave the receiver with me and it was working fine, but now when I turn it on, it is continuing to acquire data or search for satellite 2 in continuous mode. Can a splitter be used? I don't care about the feature of recording and watching another channel at the same time. I am NOT tech savvy, so any information you can give me would be appreciated!

He probably never activated the box. You can call D* and activate it. Just make sure you have the receiver ID and the access card number. As far as the two lines thing, did he install a SWM? He should have installed the DVR and activated it. There is no requirement to have two lines to the DVR if the customer doesn't want it. he may have been scared that you would call back and say he didn't run another line causing a chargeback to his pay.

He activated the box and everything was working fine when he left. I had to exchange the TV and when I hooked it up yesterday, and even this morning when I turn the TV on for the first time, it is a blank screen with "acquiring data" just running. The cable is in sat 2. If I move it to 1 and reset, then move it to 2, it works ok. What's up with that? How should it be installed so I don't have to go through reset every time I turn on the tv? and no, there is no SWM.

Have you tried keeping it in Sat 1 and not changing it? Why do you have to move it to Sat 2?
