Hi,
I cancelled DISH last week and am now in possession of the return box. It specifically states that they want receivers, remotes, and the LNB. I guess I can climb up a ladder and get the LNB, but was wondering if anybody can tell me what tool to take with me to retrieve it. Thanks.

Call Dish and tell them the dish is on your roof. They will mark your account that the LNB doesn't have to be returned.

I will try and reach it from the ladder tomorrow. If I can't, then I will call and/or leave a note in the box. Do they really recycle the LNB's?

I'd take some side cutters anyways just incase the cable has been zip tied to the mast and no slack has been left .

I think the whole LNB thing is just Dish's way of telling you to "f**k off" for dropping their services. Kinda like the receiver return shipping fees. Either way I wouldn't even bother getting on the roof, just tell them it's on the roof and you can't safely get to it. If they really want it back (which they don't,) they can come get it. They can't just charge you $149 for not risking your life to get their LNB back. Would they rather pay your hospital bills? I think not.

Don't ask me why the policy is in place to ask for the LNBF back. Maybe there was and/or is a reason. I can just tell you, in most cases, the LNBF is waived. A long time ago, I was an account specialist (the people you call to cancel your services), and I would always, ALWAYS ask of the customer could reach it without climbing on anything. If they could. I'd ask them to return it, but if they could not, I'd note that I was going to waive any cost for not returning the LNBF.

The return kit can also sometimes have generic info about switches (DPP44, SW64, etc), and those aren't very common, either. I agree with the advice, just call in, let them know you cannot reach it. The person will notate the account. If you are charged for it anyway, call in, reference your call where you said you couldn't reach it, and it would be taken care of.

As a Dish employee, my opinions are my own, and do not represent my employer in any way.

Why take any chance on getting hurt, that makes no sense. They WILL waive it if you do what I said.

I myself would only send back the receiver and tell them I am unable to get to the LNB. They do redeploy the LNBs but I'd rather keep it myself.

A new LNB is only worth $50 max so I don't know what you'd expect to get out of a used one. I'd just hang on to it for future use.

Solid Signal wants $85 for a 1000.2 WA LNB. Amazon has it for $25-$50, Dish Depot has it for $40, so I'd be willing to bet that it could be sold on eBay for $30-$40. I guess it depends on which one OP has.
