With my boys getting older and sharing a receiver I've decided to get a 522 just to keep them from fighting over what their watching, the older they get the worse they get. :yes

I just can't make up my mind if I should buy one or lease? Economically whats my best choice? I guess were going to have to speculate what Dish will lease a 522 to existing customers.

Whats best, buy or lease? Ive already got a Dish Pro Plus 44 switch waiting to use when I get it.

If you're ever given the option to lease do that. But if you must have it now I guess you're going to have to buy it... I would never buy one though, especially after all the upfront costs you'll still be paying a $4.99 mirroring fee.

no just the lease fee and dvr fee (they don't charge the addtl receiver fee on leased boxes as long as the box is plugged into a phone line)

Really? I called this morning to inquire about the 510 lease deal (but i didn't pull the trigger as of yet) and i just asssumed that i would have to continue to pay the $5 additional receiver fee even though the 510 would be replacing one i already have.

If this isn't the case, then with the $5 lease fee plus the $4.99 VOD fee, my bill would only go up $4.99 as I would no longer have to pay the additional receiver fee.

I wonder why the CSR never bothered to mention that fact...oh wait a minute...what was i thinking...they are clueless......

lease vs buy

with lease option on 522 you have to commit to minimum program, which most people do. For them it is good deal to lease. For some like me, I only use dish for international, buying is the best option.

I prefer to own mine, as stated in another thread I am the type who likes to have the option of modifying my equipment, an option not legally or ethically available if it belongs to someone else.

Your 522 can replace two receivers that are currently on your account. You can almost get enough out of them (if their 301/311 or better) to pay for the 522 if you get a new one from eBay.
