Signal Strength vs. Signal Quality

I have noticed a number of you guys mention that the dish signal meter represents quality instead of signal strength.

Would one of you that understands this difference mind explaining it to me, also, possibly how each affects rain fade differently, if at all.

Please don't flame me for not searching the net. I am asking a question where I know I will get the correct response.

A better signal doesn't mean you'll get better picture quality. Higher signal strength lessens the chance of rain fade affecting you.

From the first Google Hit on " digital signal quality ".

" ... signal quality measurements, including measurements of signal to noise ratio, bit error rate and channel multi-path distortion in addition to the signal strength. "

These folk include S/N, bit error rate, and multipath distortion as well as signal strength. I would also suggest possibly consideration should be given to simple interference due to other signals. (although I would assume this may be rolled into bit error rate.
