not looking to anything funny or crazy ... but i bought a new in the box vip 211 and had it turned on today and dish tired to program it and they said that I need a new smart card and wanted to charge me 50 dollars for it and that is what i gave for the whole thing to start with ... they told me I could buy them from a dealer for cheaper maybe ? but have looked and cant find new cards or a place i can trust ? can someone give me a place to buy one please , thanks for all ur help ...

where did you buy the 211 from? Can you contact the seller and request a new smart card from them?

I did he was a old dealer that had 4 of these boxes left and he said the last he know that they had built in smart cards and called dish back and they said yes they did but it was old technology and need a new "unmarried" card ?

oh I see, man you might have to get it from Dish in that case. Im not positive on this but maybe contact the guys at dishstore.net and see if they sell them as they are very trusted.

You are out of luck. Dish is the only place to buy the cards.

I got cards at the Dishstore but they are $65, since Dish charges us $50 plus $15 shipping.

I would return the 211 and buy a 211K for $119 from Dishstore which comes with the right card to begin with.

sounds good ... thats what I think I will do then .. thanks just thought 50.00 for the 211 was cheep and it was brand new so thought I could not go wrong , but lessons learned

Did you pay with a credit card? A threat to initiate a chargeback might persuade the place you bought it from to take it back.

Sign up for DHA and the smart card is free.

I bought a 211 that had the internal card but it was the NAGRA-2 card , DHA got me the card - no charge.

Of course it is $6 per month and there is a $25 cancellation fee, but...
