Can I do this? Seems like I can't because I can't get a picture on the 2nd TV using component connection. D* operator says no but I thought I would ask here before I looked at HDMI switching device. Is there a way to hard key the switch from HDMI output to Component output through the remote? Don't want to have to turn on the last watched tv just to go through the process of switching outputs.

Direct TV operator says I cannot output over HDMI and Component simultaneously. Component out is not currently working to my TV 2. TV1 with HDMI does show a picture.

Hello jborchel,
I am currently using both the HDMI and Component outputs of 2 DVR's to feed different inputs of a single TV. All of the outputs of a receiver or dvr are live. I can switch from any output to any other output by using my remote to designate which signal (HDMI or Component) from either DVR will be seen on my TV. If the component does not work (produces no video signal) you should try to substitute different component cables (known good ones if possible). Try a different component port on the same or a component port on another TV. It is possible for a port to go bad on a receiver/dvr/TV or one or even more component cables could also fail. At least of these suggestions should work. If none of these suggestions work then the receiver/dvr most likely has a bad component output. Happy troubleshooting. :D

Both outputs work simultaneously on my DVR. My understanding has always been that all outputs work at the same time, including composite.

HDMI and component work simultaneously.
There is one issue. Because the premium movie channels (HBO etc) require HDCP copy protection, you can't watch those channels on the component-connected TV if the HDMI-connected TV is "off", because the HDMI link won't respond correctly to the HDCP compliance test..
If you want to overcome this problem you will need to use a powered, active HDMI splitter to drive the two TVs.

Directv operator is wrong. All outputs are live all the time. There may be a problem with the output on your receiver/dvr or the component cable. It could also be the input on the second tv. Did you check the post by texasbrit? It could also be what he referred to.

Not sure the setup you are wanting. I use a hdmi splitter that runs 50' hdmi from one tv to splitter and 3' hdmi to other tv to splitter. Remote is set to UHF for that receiver.

1st line CSR's are not tech specialists and shouldn't be expected to be; and if it's not in the normal script, they don't know unless they happen to be a decent end user also.

No issue with that.. but they should be trained to know what they don't know and pass those questions off instead of answering them incorrectly.

True. A prime example is the HR34/rvu compatible television debacle. Front line csrs are still telling customers that they have to have a Samsung television to use the HR34.

I agree and its as simple as the caller asking to be transferred.

I believe I have found the problem. I unchecked 1080P and I was able to receive picture over component on TV2. Running into new problem though. I'm trying to use optical sound output on DVR for both TV's and my video processor, a Denon 602, doesn't seem to like two different inputs, HDMI1 and Component1(the simultaneous video feeds from D*), trying to share the same audio input. Each time I switch TV's it turns off the optical feed to the last used, HDMI1 or C1, and so when I go back to the previous tv I have to go through setup to activate Optical 1 for that session. Yikes!! The DVR wouldn't be causing this would it?

Could be, but I doubt it. Can you use another audio output from the dvr?
