Sling adapter issue

I'm a retailer trying to help a customer get her remote access working. Fresh install, has internet in the home, iPhone app. I talked her through the dishnetwork.com log in on her laptop and it acts like she doesn't have sling. The app claims her DVR isn't online. The adapter is plugged in. what should I try?
