SlingGuide and Firewall

Hello,

I've been trying to connect to the SlingGuide website after registering, putting in my receiver ID and activation code. When I then try to login to the site, it just times out and tells me that the 'page cannot be displayed', 'website not available'...whatever the message is in each browser I've tried (Firefox, Chrome and IE).

Anyway, thinking that it could be that I need to open a port on my firewall, I then tried this on my iPhone, using the 3G network instead of WiFi, and I am able to connect using 3G.

Does anybody know what port needs to be opened up on the firewall to allow traffic to my 722 receiver? I've tried searching both the web and this site, but I can't find anything.

I didin't open a port on my firewall and it works fine. If you cannot see the web page at all, that implies that you are having trouble getting to the Sling Guide page, not access the DVR. I don't think the DVR contains the web server.

The site uses a secure address (https instead of http). Are you able to get to the login page? Can you ping 'dish2.sling.com'?

yes, I am able to ping dish2, as well as dish5 which looks like the site that gets redirected to when I try connecting to dish (note, I can't post links yet, so assume 'sling dot com').

The only reason I suspect the firewall is because it works fine from my iPhone on the 3G network, but doesn't work from inside my own network. I just tried it from the network at my office and it works from there.

I've also tried it from at least 3 different computers inside my network and I can't connect from any of them, so that's why I suspect something within my own network may be blocking it.

Guess I'll just have to keep playing around with it.

Oh, more information to add.

I did try https instead of http and I get the same result...the page just times out. One thing to note, is that the first time I go to dish dot sling dot com on any PC on my network, it gives me the "Welcome to Sling Guide for Dish DVR Beta" login screen. After I enter my e-mail address and password and select 'Remember me on this computer', I subsequently can no longer get this page to come up. It will timeout every time afterward.
