I just read through the EA thread trying to figure out my own answer and was very confused. I wanted to read that before making a fool out of myself.

Out of the blue today, I recieved in the mail a smart card. I have the 622 and have never had a smart card before.

Is this what you guys have been waiting for with regards to EA, or am I just stupid for even thinking that.

I just thought it was weird to get that after never having one before.

that should make it EA compatible, on the new security system.

So is new news, or well known expired news. I have always wanted to break some good news

My dead 622 has smart card - purple me thinks- i'll be sending that one back soon- any good reason to keep smart card

The purple card is for the new security system. All receivers should have it, presumably by the end of January, regardless of what satellites the receiver utilizes. It also is a requirement for EA. There is no valid reason to hold on to the card when sending back the receiver. They are married and will not work in another receiver. A hacker might want the card, so if you fail to return it, Dish will "inquire after it."
