Puerto Rico
here in PR I myself have dish antennas and 2 homes
my main home which I reside mon-fri
and my apartment fri night-sun

question is I only have 1 receiver on my account
no phone line, cell phone registered to account

since this is a frequent "back-n-forth" will I require snowbird?
locals have no changes

or should I stick to my dont tell dish and move it myself policy?

Having 1 receiver also isnt an audit flag for those nazis so I'm sure it would not be a problem or cause them to call

but incase they do and I am in my apartment, do I give them the numbers?or do I tell them I'm out of town until monday and have them call while I am home?

to make this bring back and forth easy I am switching from 625 leased DVR to a purchased VIP 222k dual tuner HD receiver(not a DVR to avoid problems with vibration caused to the hard drive)so it is not a pain as the 625 to move
I also plan on purchasing a second set of remotes for my weekend home along with an xtra UHF antenna

so that leaves me to carry the receiver and no cables at all or remotes
what are your thoughts on this?
let me know if you have any other ideas to make this a breeze,
note I refuse to add a second receiver just to pay $5 more dollars a month

snowbird should not be a problem since locals do not change and I am moving more frequently than just a few times a year

I have dish installs done on both homes along with the same switch setup
(no check switch on arrival needed)

to recap, I want to be able to take the receiver with me and I do not plan to ditch it in a second home or anything for account tacking, it is only for my viewing

like I said all ideas are welcome

just move the receiver from one location to another. Don't say anything to Dish and just move the receiver :)

The audit people wont call on a 1 receiver account

okay and what are your thoughts about adding a second set of remotes and an extra UHF antenna to my weekend home?my purchase receiver will be a VIP 222k(got it factory sealed for $160 at a dealer that wanted it gone)replacing my main 625 with it once PR package is launched
(edited out the 1 receiver question, did not read ice's post above completely)
Thanks for the fast response Ice:D

Getting a 2nd set of remotes would be fine

The UHF antenna I'd just keep on the unit or unhook it when you move the receiver (maybe tape it to the top) but if you want to buy another UHF antenna go ahead

We have a receiver that foes from my dad's house to the cabin (2 hours or so away)....all we take is the receiver as the extra remote is already there ;)

I am asking of buying the remotes and especially another antenna since it looks very fragile
I just want to pack as light as possible fridays when I get home from work and ready for the apartment
also what do you think of giving up the DVR?
this is due to the frequent moving and daage it may cause to it in the future and the silly extra fee for the DVR

The snowbird policy is designed for folks who truly are "snowbirds"...my dad's buddy is like that
6 months in Ft Myers, FL
6 months in Minneapolis

They move the receivers with them and then call Dish to switch the locals.

yep just buy a 2nd set of remotes...just make sure the "address" on them is set up the same as the original set

Those antennas look flimsy but are pretty sturdy but if you want just buy a 2nd one...they're pretty inexpensive

Oh okay, and what do you think of giving up the DVR for fast and safe travel?
streets in puerto rico are filled with more holes than the USA
the people who run this country dont give a dime for streets to be repaired

thats why I dont want the hard drive on my receiver

aso I intend to use the original box along with the foam it brings to hold the receiver still in its place

I'll let someone answer the DVR question...the unit we transport is a 301 (basic SD receiver).

But using the packaging it came with should be fine for the DVR. I always thought as long as the drive wasnt spinning it would be OK.

meh but a cheap Dual tuner HD receiver and already owning HDTVs isnt something to stick with a 625 SD

I was thinking of the 722k but could not due to
-no money
-the heavy DVR travel thing in my head

and in the box there are around 2-3 notes that say to handle with care to avoid hard drive failure

thanks for the good info lets just hope dish doesnt send us receiver GPS trackers anytime soon LOL:D

I've been transporting a 722 between my two houses for a year now with no problems. I just unplug it and give it a minute to shut down before I move it. No problems so far.

Thanks for the info bross
well I already got the 222k for 160 and needed to pay my credit card so money is tight
in the future I might get a 722k
for now I am still toying around with the 222k which I do like the new remotes and the look of it
when the 222k dies(I hope it doesnt) I'll get a 722k it looks like the perfect receiver
